Well after seing alot of people with tape round thier eggs and having to experience this I thought ide share some info with you guys. You prob know this already but ill say It anyway.

With your egg you get the battery spacer right? Well It seems some 9v batteries are smaller than most (thickness wise) and if the two batteries -with the spacer- slide into the hopper easily the door wont stay shut properly.

Well I found out that if you wedge some tape, stick, leaves even small children in between the spacer and the batteries and make it a really snug fit into the battery drawer the lid will be hard to fit on. You kinda have to push it down and across with a fair bit of force. When the lid is on like this it wouldnt come off. If you look at the way it works it makes sense.

It seems the further apart the batteries are and the harder to get into the hopper the tighter the lid stays shut.

Well thats my explination, sorry I aint got pics or diagrams. If you got any Qs just pm me

TonyF's idea of using a small piece of aluminum, drilled with two self tappers works a treat, no matter whether the door is broken or not its indestructable once this little contraption is put on.

Shud patent the bloody idea :D

Ahh...heard my name mentioned :D
Done this mod to all three of my eggs.
Here's a pic of my clear one, painted black for next year!

Not the prettiest of mods, but there is no way the door can open, as long as the front tab if ok, and it's no harder than a halo to change batteries. Just undo one of the screws.
Screws seem to hold onto the plastic fine, although you don't need to open it that often.

The other thing I did come up with, although not sure if tournie legal was a large band cut from a motorcycle inner tube and squeezed over the egg at an angle, about the full width of the battery cover. A struggle to get on but excellent when in place. All you had to do was roll it back to get to the battery cover. Reason I blew that one out, was could easily be blamed for bouncers, as it was about 3" wide!

You can also remove the battery connection board and connect the wires to the snap on type conectors- I did that, now it doesn't matter if my battery door opens or not, as the batteries stay put.
