i want to get this grip on an icon, would i be able to see the lights to tell what mode i'm in?(if if buy it) also, how grippy is it?

no you would not be able to fit them to your gun without modifying them...
the icon grips have 3 holes in them , and the dye 3's have 4 holes. and the dye 3's have no window to allow you to see the LED in the icon grip frame...
they are real comfy , but iv heard rumours that they wear down and split real easy but thats only a rumour that iv heard they are probably fine . they were comfy wen i felt sum at CC though
