looking to upgrade to a dye proto matrix but would appreciate a bit of feedback from anyone in the know.

Can anyone advise me of the difference between the dm5 and the proto and if anyone has one how they rate its performance?

PROTO -the proto is smaller and lighter than the DM5

the proto comes with a standard 14" barrel probably best to upgrade to an ultralight.

The proto is not as gas effiecient as the DM5

The proto will burst more balls than the Dm5

so u do have a choice between the DM5 and proto. depends on your budget. but the 2 markers are both awesome and talk to any of the uk teams now using protos and im sure u will get positive feedback (chameleons,Campaign) or teams using the DM5 (UK Jaguars, Kellys)

DM5=10/10
Proto=8/10
Ego=9/10
shocker 8/10

those ratings are personal.

Proto

I thought the proto is more efficient than the DM5. - It runs at a hgher presure and the main chamber inside the gun is smaller than in the DM5.

Anyways...

Should get around 7 pots and a hopper off a 68ci tank.

Proto is a bit lighter and shorter than a DM5 but not so you'd notice.

Both are stupidly quick and very reliable if you look after them.

My Proto came with a 12" one piece barrel, similar to the Dye Excel.

Munky, hope i can help you, our team has recently got 14 new Proto matrix's that i have to maintain and service between tournaments.

Both myself and Mike have owned the old school Matrix Led/Lcd in the past, and we were expecting the Proto's to be a high maintenence marker aswell, fortunately DYE have gotten rid of all the bugs with the new Proto Matrix. So far they are holding up extremely well to the abuse that some of the team gives them. Out of the 14 markers, i have only had to change a single o-ring on one marker due to a slight leak. :eek:

Just a quick run through of the difference's between Dm5 and Proto

Proto is smaller and lighter than Dm5
Proto is more gas effiecent than Dm5, I easily get 7 x 160 pots plus a halo from my 71/45 DYE Throttle air system
Proto is just as fast as Dm5
Dm5 comes with bottom line, Proto does not
Dm5 has built in gas on/off, Proto does not
Dm5 comes with 2 piece DYE ultralite barrell, Proto comes with 1 piece proto barrel
Dm5 comes with clamping feed neck, Proto does not
Dm5 has a externally adjustable trigger, Proto does not
Dm5 comes with upgradeable board by means of replaceable chips, Proto has to be flashed
Dm5's millling design is better than the Proto (in my opinion)
Dm5 is more expensive than proto, but the money you save will pay for new trigger, clamping feedneck, on/off bottom line, new barrel etc, with money to spare. :D
Out of those upgrades you only really need a couple of different bore barrels anyhow. All our teams markers are standard off the shelf items.
The proto matrix is light, fast and really easy to maintain, 9/10 in my opinion because nothings perfect, not even me! :p

I hope i covered everything that other posters missed, if you want to try out one of our team markers at the next round of the PA your more than welcome, just grab one of us in the afternoon when we have finished playing and ask for Casper
