Why is it that at every tournament I go to you always get the Joy Boys dry firing there markers. Now I don’t want to winge on but man this gets on my t**s.
I was at the M25 first leg last weekend and whilst walking back from the burger van there was to guys walking over to the reception. One of the guys had a marker in his hands with no barrel attached. As he was walking he was banging away at his marker over and over, now there was members of the public walking around just yards form the imbecile whilst he insisted in seeing how fast he could fire his marker. This must be somewhat distressing for anyone who has not played or been around Paintball.
I feel that there should be more restrictions on this type of behavior at the tournaments, why is there the need to dry fire a marker in the safe zone anyway.
I have marshaled for around 10 years and this is one of the main safety infringements that we jump on.
I really wish people would show more respect and a professional approach to Paintball.

Sorry I had to make my feelings known, I hope this is some food for thourght.

need to get hold of Tank for an exit
I played Simply the Best speedball last year, and found out via a "quiet word in my ear" from Russel that they didn't allow dry-firing in the safe area - cue a trip to the chrono range to sort out my cocker!

I think that the more we get into the "public" arena, the more restrictions we should have on where and when we shoot our loads, be we firing blanks or not ;)

If the staging area if non-public access, perhaps allow essential dry-firing (eg, for fixing a marker) but not non-essential (fannying the trigger - typo intentional ;) ).

Maybe we should have separate areas of the staging area, a loud teams area, where sad goits show off how fast they can shoot their load, and the quiet area, where poor hungover fools (as I usually am) can hangout in peace

How fast

when in a staging area counts for sh*t, if you want to show off, tell them to watch you on field. Dry firing (apart from for fixing) should have little/no place in the staging area, nor anywhere near the public.

It aint big

It aint clever

It only impresses the shallow

(My 2 cents)

I was always told just to dry fire first thing upon getting to a tourney to make sure that your marker was working properly with no leaks etc. :)

I thought that you could get penalised for over dry firing your marker in the safe zone??!!

For one its damn annoying having people next to you dry firing all the time :) and like Silentbob said there is no real reason for it unless your having problems.

I think that was the case at the S2k3 event today.

I know it gets on my nerves like nothing else. Apart from carneys.

The only time i dry fire is when i unscrew my co2 tank to help save me a o-ring. The field i play at we are not allowed to dry fire in safe zone anyway.

can anyone clarify if dry firing is bad for an autococker and it's moving parts??

I dry fired about 50 times (not non stop) in my garage (it's well isolated and was shut) to try and set up the front air regulators.

Glad to say it's set up nice now, but does dry firing hurt cockers?
