They CAN effect the stability of the gun for better or worse.I personally HATE them because it brings my face to close to the back of the gun (bad news for cocker owner, even with beavertail.)
Plus I don't feel I shoot as accurate unless I m using a bottom line kind of set up

It just comes down to the individual player & their marker. If you like a long setup on the marker e.g. to use the bottle as a stock then you probably don't want one. If you like to have everything compact & snuggled into you, you probably want to use one. It's just a case of what's more comfortable & convenient for you.
if u have a big bottle it moves it away from your body so u can get tighter
