In the immortal words of the red-tops...'Cor wotta scorcher!'

The sixth leg of the 5 man Dragon's Lair/Trophyland Series of tournaments was played in blistering heat on August 3rd in Brentwood, Essex.

Thankfully the layout of the Dragon's Lair site meant that teams didn't have to play in the blazing sunshine, with both of the fields in use (one Sup Air, one Concept) being located in woodland clearings - nice cool shade all round. :)

12 teams were competing for the honours, with trophies for the top three teams in each division and points on the day counting towards becoming the overall series winners after the final leg in December.

The teams were split randomly into two divisions of 6 for a morning round-robin then at lunchtime were seeded according to their performance, with the six highest scoring teams forming divsion 1 for an afternoon round-robin and the remainder forming division 2.

During the morning session the Redskins dominated the first divsion, maxing 4 games and eliminating all the players and hanging the flag in their final game, only to have the flag carrier eliminated for a shot on his pack.

The second divsion saw the Top Cats romping home with 4 maxes, only losing against the Redskins Braves.

For the afternoon session, those two teams were joined in divsion 1 by Kool Running, Redskins Braves, Saxon Raiders and South Coast Tremmor.

Division 2 was made up of the Kestrels, UK Blaze, Roughnecks Black, Roughnecks Blue, Paradise Hunters and Bits+Pieces.

Tremmor had been the surprise team of the morning session, playing out of the their socks compared to earlier legs of the series, but they seemed to run out of puff in the afternoon and couldn't rack up any wins. Redskins Braves are another improving team and were chuffed at managing to qualify for the first divsion, but had to settle for fifth place, despite some close games.

The Saxon Raiders are normally one of the teams contesting for the top spot, but this time couldn't seem to get themselves going and had to settle for 4th place.

The Redskins picked up 3 maxes, but were outplayed by both Kool Running and Top Cats and took 3rd.

It was tight at the top, but Top Cats managed to just pip Kool Running to 1st, with both teams playing fast, aggressive 'ball.

In division 2 the big shock was that the Kestrels were there at all - but their day didn't get any better and they went home empty handed along with Paradise Hunters and UK Blaze.

The tougest games for the Roughnecks seemed to be when they played each other, with Roughnecks 'Blue' preventing 'Black' from taking first place by denying them a max in their final game. Blue took 3rd and Black had to settle for second.

Dragon's Lair virgins 'Bits+Pieces' took charge of the division and took a convincing first place.

With strict time keeping from the field ultimates, the day ran very smoothly - the marshalling was to the usual high standard and the series was once again a showcase for fair play, with players calling themselves out left, right and centre.....makes a refreshing change.

Another great event organised by Ray + Jean.

The next event in the series is on Sunday October 5th, hope to see you there! :)

Good days balling!

Nice to be back at the lair, bit of a shame we played some fairly rough games on the back of some good ones!

Only the second time we ever failed to make the first division, but still had a great day. Big thankyou to Ray and Jean for running a great tourney, and the other teams for some hard fought and fairly played games!

If anyone has never been to the Lair its worth the trip if you fancy a well run and friendly tourney, with a welcome break from all sup'air tourneys!

Don't know if we'll make October as we hope to be playing the euro 5 man in Kent.

Laterz

Ian

:)

P.s. The blues didn't max us, we won but needed a max! Not that there is any rivalry between the teams, or anything. :D

Ian - edited that bit about the max :)

Next time you guys play I'll make sure to say hello - we were on the two tables next to you but in that heat I doubt I would've made the effort to say hi to Kylie ;)

Here you go

http://www.dragonslair-paintball.com/results.asp

Heres the link to the results page, not updated with the current scores yet. Also it doesn't tell you how many tournies each team have played. If you e-mail Ray or Jean i'm sure they'll be happy to give you the info.

Skaffen - No problem mate, I know exactly how you feel, it was a little warm! Think I may have made the effort for Kylie though!!!
;)
