help me make my lifes biggest decision!

I am new to paintball and am trying to buy my first marker but can't decide. I have narrowed it down to 3 decisions but don't know which to choose (the uk sites seem to have limited choice). First up is the spyder shutter package
second is an autococker 2001
third is an impulse

the first would give me more money left to upgrade and I like the marker
the second I like the best
the 3rd I have been told is the best

I want the best I can get that will hold its own even at the highest levels of play. If it is the impulse then so be it but I want the others more as long as they can match it for performance.
Any ideas on shots per second for each one when upgraded fully?
How much does each one cost to get functioning?

cheers

Go for the Spyder. With the Shutter being the top of the range Spyder it comes with a few nice extra features, and is very upgradeable in terms of electronic grips, etc. Speed in a gun is nice, but don't get hung up on balls per second. Just cos one gun can fire faster than another doesn't mean it's any better.

Another thing to remember is to not spend too much money until you know what you are getting yourself into. If you went out and bough a Cocker or Impulse and 6 months later got fed-up with paintball you've wasted alot of money.

As for cost to get going. The Spyder is easy, just screw in a full CO2 tank, push on a hopper and go play

I don't know how your local site workes, but mine doesn't allow the use of electronic guns on site (only walk-ons) You may have to wave good bye to the Impulse.

The best piece of advice I can give you is to go and try all three. Some markers you will like the feel of, others you will not. I tell you now those three guns all feel diffrent to fire.

Good Luck,

Simon :)

Bear in mind a spyder cant really be used at the highest levels of play, you will most likely have to sell it, also you will not even get half the moneny back if you sell it second hand.
I know cos i had a spyder as my first gun, they shake way too much and ive had some awfull moments over teh chrono with that gun.

The imp is best straight out of the box, however many people prefer cockers and the latest ones are pretty mean if you replace the stock barrel.

If u wanna spend that kind of money?

In my opinion i think the only impulse worth buying is the vision as i have seen many standard impulses constantly chop up paint:eek:

if u want to spend close to 500 quid look out for some really nice cheap second hand shockers:D

If u start out with the spyder just see it as a good spare when u move up to the world of high end markers:)

I used a inferno for 6 months at tourneys it was kinda ****ty but at least i got to see which markers were **** and what markers spank:eek:

U get a bloody good view from the dead zone:D  :D

Forget the Spyder entirely.

If you're legitimately considering the Cocker and the Impulse, the Spyder is a total waste of money in comparison. Upgrading a Spyder, no matter how fancy, still leaves you with a Spyder which very VERY quickly you realize you don't really want.

The Cocker is probably the best value all around if you feel the burning itch to upgrade eventually. HOWEVER, OTHER THAN A BARREL AND NITRO NO UPGRADE IS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY FOR A COCKER TO WORK AT NEAR TOP LEVEL PERFORMANCE. With a barrel and nitro, which with any gun you will want to buy, it can in and of itself hold its own with anything out there once you get used to it and can handle it proficiently. Balls per second isn't even measured with a Cocker, as for all practical purposes even a stock Cocker can be fired at a rate equal to or greater than existing loaders can feed it. Yes you can make it a little faster. Yes you can make it a lot nicer looking. However, ten times as much money is spent these days on paintgun upgrades that don't do **** for them other than look good as stuff that actually improves the on field results you get from what you hold in your hand. Be alert to what percentage you have to pay more to get a percentage enhancement. No matter what all the paintgun pornographers will tell you (yes, those who have $700+ in a 4 or 5 color ano job with 5 matching Boomsticks who insist you can't hit a thing unless you have them), paying 200% more for 2% improvement is IDIOCY.

The Impulse is a performer as well, though with different attributes. It is an electro, and electros are easier to get proficient with in a shorter span of time. They boost your confidence with easy deployment of mass quantities of paint. You don't spend half or more of your budget buying flashy parts for them. However, as electronic guns are fun and can be used with extraordinary results, I personally believe that relying on them too early in your playing can make them into a crutch, taking the place of effective movement and shot planning which in higher levels become critical. You can learn on them well, but it must be done in a disciplined manner as to focus as much or more on movement and communication as with fingering the trigger. Granted with electro the task of shooting becomes easier and you can focus more on other aspects of the game--but remember to do so and not get tunneled into rate of fire, 1mm triggers, and other trivia.

Yes i agree
A spyder will never be a tourney gun, so if you want to play tourneys then dont wast your hard earned..

A guy on my team has bought a standard imp, no vision eye or crazy colours. Just an imp with a 20oz co2.
Hes just got a blade trigger, new grips and a freak.
I have to say it shoots very well, its small and fast.

First off a spyder is NOT a tourney gun. Just get that one out of your head please! Then you must consider your style of play. Do you play front and not care about accuracy just speed, or are you a guy who sits in the back with the pack dumpin on their front players. Impulses are nice... but how far can you take them. Sure with a new trigger they can blow a cockers rate of fire out of the water. But have you ever shot a closed bolt gun. I am not going to comment on whether or not I think closed-bolt affects accuracy or range I can tell you that they shoot different from any other open bolt gun. Personally I play front with a cocker. Once you learn the trigger you can shoot a good 5-6 bps you don't really need any more. If you don't hit what your aiming at with 3 shots you either need to be smacked or you need to get a freak:D You should really play with both of these guns before you make your decision.

take your time

But remember - buy cheap - buy twice.

The Cocker is a great gun - but it suits a certain type of player - personally I have never been happy behind one.

The Imp gives a great rate of fire, reliability and accuracy. the trigger pull is light so is easier to snap shoot with and the gun comes with a max-flow reg - something you dont get with the others.

Try them all mate - then buy what you like best - just make sure you have given them a go!!!

Good luck

Mark

Yeah Marks right mate,

i personnaly would go for the impulse or the cocker. Fully tricked cockers are the muts nuts and in terms or speed they will go as fast as u can pull um. I use cockers and luv um but have recently been pursuaded by the vision impulses and matrix, (just to confues u even more). The impulse with the vision eyes are wicked, i've used Nick's form the rushers and is lovely. Saying that he has a freak factory one now but it still tops.
If u wanna have fun upgrading get the cocker, if u want a fast, easy firing gun get the impulse if u want some spare cash get the spyder but u will have to get a better gun if u wanna play high-end tournies. Hope this helps mate.:D :D :D
