I've just picked up a friend's cocker from the shop where it'd been fixed and so I decided to give it a test before I took it to his house.

The thing is, that when I screwed in my preset air system, air started flowing out of the tiny hole in the ASA. It managed to fire a few shots, but I lost about a 1000psi by the time I'd unscrewed it, as well as an o-ring that ruptured pretty magnificently.

What's confusing me is that the shop had a few test shots taken with a co2 bottle, and my preset works fine with my cocker. I even tried again after changing the o-ring, to see if that was the problem but it just happened again.

Do you know what could be causing this? I dont have any other air sources to try out, but I know it isnt the bottle by itself causing it.

Have you tried the preset since changing the o-ring.
Check there's nothing jammed in the asa, like a bit of an old o-ring.
Make sure the preset is screwed all the way in, put a tiny smear of oil on the o-ring.

I think I've found the cause. The pin in the dodgy ASA is significantly longer than the other by a good couple of milimetres. I didn't take any notice, but this leads me to assume that the co2 bottle used at the shop had an on/off instead of a pin valve.

The question now is what can be done to solve it?

I don't but I'll let him know when I give it back to him later on, he might be able to sort something out. It should just be a matter of shortening it to the same legnth as the one in my ASA, right?

I had the same thing happen to me before with my preset on my Sterling, a different ASA solved the problem straight away.

I have a spare ASA in my kit bag that Ally can have (I guess it is Ally). I will swap it over next training day, and yes I do have spare hose and loctite.

See you soon.

Hey Matt, it's Euan's so I'll pass the message on later today when I return it. I have a spare ASA myself, but it's the spyder hole pattern so not much use to anyone!

Cheers.
