Do you need a burst disc in an on line reg?

Got an old centerflag inline reg (i.e. front reg) that is currently leaking from where there should be a burst disc (bought second hand in a bulk lot of stuff, it didn't go on me).

It takes a flat copper disc as the burst disc and I'm having some trould sourcing one but my question is do I need one, I don't recall seeing them on more modern regs (this one must be at least ten years old) and if the output from my bottle is only 850 psi why does the inline reg need one?

I'm getting tempted to bung the hole with a normal blanking screw - am I going to lose a hand?

thanks as always.

Hole for the gauge is on the other side, this one has a hollow grub screw with a washer under that and there should be a copper burst disc under that but there isn't (I've got another of the same reg and there is one in that). Its the same as on a ans genx2 reg.

God knows how the previous owner burst it since the reg itself is supposed to go to 700 psi and he was only running it on an autococker.

I've noticed a few of the older regs have this feature which either isn't there on modern ones or is hidden inside somewhere, it's annoying since the centerflag hyper is a nice reg.
