Division 3 X-Ball!

The notification below was pulled from a larger statement by Lane regarding the 2003 World Cup at Disney's Sports Complex. Pretty cool, though, don't you think? Before you know it the PSP will be all X 24/7/356

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We will be running Division 3 X-Ball. This classification is open to rookie teams only. If your team has made the top 3 in any of the first 4 X-Ball tournaments, you are not allowed to play Div 3, regardless of your roster classification. Entry fee is the same as Div 1 and 2, same fields, same refs, same rules, and the prizes will be much lower. Specifics will be posted soon. But, the winner should expect to be able to cover entry and paint with their winnings, 2nd, should get entry covered, and 3rd will get something. This will not be a division for teams interested in turning a profit. It is simply and way to inroduce some of the newer teams to X-Ball.

Thanks for perpetuating a completely unfounded scenario all to gain hit counts.

For the record - there is no intent to, nor have there been any discussion of, doing away with 10 man.

I have had a large number of teams ask if/and when there would be a Div3 for true rookie teams. This is a direct response to teams stating their desire to have such a class, and our belief that there is enough interest from the teams to warrant the division.

We will offer additional formats as teams seem to want them and there seems to enough teams to sustain them, and will do away with formats when it becomes obvious that there are not enough teams interested in playing them to justify the effort and money it takes to run them.

As long as there are enough teams to justify 10 man, we will have 10 man. If, at the end of the world cup, 95% of the teams say they only want to play 3 man in the future, we will have the PSP 3 man league beginning in March ....... and the NXL:D

Wow. But not that suprising.

I loved playing it and know a lot of people want an opportunity to play it. This event has to be the IDEAL time to try it, because you don't end up having to spend all day at the site walking fields and waiting to play. It will give people who play X-ball a chance to visit Disney and do other things (in my case recover from partying...) or go do stuff with their family if they take them.

I really need to find time to put my thoughts on X-ball down after the PSP Philly event. I have lots to say and didn't want to do short shrift.

All in all, I can't wait to play it at World Cup. I'll be there in Div 2 with Ignition, trying to better 4th place :)

Get a grip, BW. If that had been my intent the thread title would have been 'Third X-Ball Division drives last nail into 10-man coffin.'
The trend has been obvious all season long. There was general speculation as to the likely impact of the NXL before this year started from lots of sources and my comment was in no way pejorative so lighten up, BW.
And, of course, if the PSP hadn't offered divisional X-ball in the first place there would still be a substantial 10-man presence. :p
Or if X-Ball didn't have what, 8 or 10 refs per field, while 10-man struggles to get more than 4 or 5--and I'm the one perpetuating a completely unfounded scenario??!? :p :)

What happens if X-Ball popularity does continue to grow? You guys have already plugged an extra day into the format with sign in, registration and prep on Wednesday with play starting Thursday and running thru Sunday. What are the prospects for pushing the time envelope even further?

And the bracketology is also interesting as the 32 team divisions (or any division larger than Div 1's 16) necessarily play more games to get through. Will the teams, once they notice, think that's a good thing or a bad thing?

I've got some more observations regarding X-Ball but they'll save for later.:D
