Ok, i need some advice here guys...

I'm running with a stock Spyder Xtra here, after blowing a few test rounds through it in my back garden i wanted to pack it up ready to go... only problem is running off the excess co2.

I switched the co2 valve off, removed my loader, then unscrewed the co2 a bit, ive read here you should hear a hiss then fire ur marker until it fails to recock. I got no hiss but i fired until unable to recock. You musta seen my friend she was worring thinking im gonna kill myself.

Marshalls on my local field say dry firing is bad for your marker, am i doing the right thing or should i be doin summat diffrent?

Be gentle with me as im very n00b :)

if you have a pushpin co2 bottle,ie no on/off valve, point the marker at the floor and unscrew the bottle whilst dry firing this takes the pressure of the bottle threads and o-ring:)

You alright mate.

im runnin a xtra aswell. u should see a small whole on the bit ure co2 screws into, i think its on the side, this is the release hole for the excess co2 in ure marker.

the only reason i can think if the gas not hissin is ure not undin the bottle enough to let the gas escape through the hole.

When u unscrew ure bottle just keep unscrewin it all the way, it wont be forced of by the pressure of the excess gas there isnt enough in the gun to do that. You should hear that hissin noise, if u dnt it could be that the release whole is blocked with a bit of dirt, tryin using a really small drill bit and runnnin through the whole using ure hand just to clear it out.

You should then only need to fire once know to have fully degassed your gun.

hope this helps

Oh yah, i see the release hole now. Looks like i didnt unscrew it enough.

So i'd assume:

1) Remove Loader
2) Fire to remove any balls from the breach
3) Switch off the CO2 valve (on the CO2 bottle)
4) Unscrew slowly till hissing sound.
5) Wait for no more hissing and unscrew fully.

Is that a good procedure to take?

If you have an on/off, just shoot off all balls, turn off your valve and shoot till you can't her anything but the sear clicking, then unscrew the bottle :)

Lightly grease the bottle o-ring with silicone grease, this will extend the life of the o-ring ten fold. As long as the bottle is turned off, and all the gas is removed from the marker, why not leave the bottle on, saves all that trouble of unscrewing. The only time you need to take the bottle off, is to recharge it.
