Diamond Wars Season 2: Episode 2 ‘Blood Money’

22nd Feb 09: 0915h: The Corimbe…

A meeting has been called by a character simply known as ‘The Brain’. Invited to this meeting are the Commanders of two of the largest Corporations in the World; the Hoffmann Minex Corporation (HMC) and the United States Diamond Exports (USDE). Both of these mighty Corporations have clashed with each other in the past however a ‘White Flag Meeting’ at 0915h saw Col. Mayo and Cmdr P.Scott both of the USDE and Drask Hoffmann with his right hand man Cmdr Snarf representing the HMC meeting face to face for the first time.
The Brain informed the Corporation Leaders that he feeds the gears of war and the flow of money to High Stakes Corporations such as theirs. He can make pretty much anything happen, for a consideration, a price... a cost.

Slightly daunted that the opposing corporation may hire this puppet master the Commanders left the meeting, and prepared their troops for the impending conflict.

1100h was closing quickly, yet again, and the Corporations were finalising their battle plans at their HQs. Their first missions were to retrieve their Cash Balance from January’s Missions. The HMC had to battle through to a convoy that had been attacked, and find their cash… Quickly locating their Convoy Drask Hoffmann himself wanting his corporations’ cash, commanded a section to surround and protect the lead Land Rover while he looted it. Eventually he found his cash, and swiftly made his way back to their HQ.

Meanwhile, deep in the Jungle Sector, a USDE patrol, led by Col. Mayo came across the wreck of a supply helicopter, suspected to have been shot down by the HMC during a fire fight. During the fire fight a USDE Trooper manages to get into the chopper to search it, with shots coming at him he manages to get clear of the chopper and the patrol returns to USDE HQ safely with the cash and few casualties.

Collecting Diamond Ore and Precious Minerals is a valuable cash flow for these powerful corporations. Deciding that this will be a priority move, Drask Hoffmann issues two orders: firstly to set up a stronghold around the Diamond Mine in the deserted mining City of Westumbo, then to the set up of a research lab nearby in an effort to match the lab previously used by the USDE. Going according to plan the lab becomes fully operational and both the mining and research begins unnoticed by the USDE.

A task issued by The Brain to decipher a code hidden on the $1,000,000 bill was cracked by a 15yr old recruit, Pvt Calvin Bishop in the USDE HQ… this gave Cmdr Scott the opportunity to BUY the location of a crate of laundered money. This transaction could not have gone smoother. Cmdr Scott, after learning the whereabouts of the Crate ordered a Chinook Helicopter to transport a retrieval section in to attain the package.

Suspicious of the lack of contact from the USDE a squad of HMC soldiers are ordered to a patrol route. Setting off from the OD Base they headed deep into the Jungle Sector. After an intense patrol they came across a clearing and decided to proceed through. The USDE had been waiting for them; a large scale fire fight broke out as the ambush was triggered. Casualties on both forces are high but the USDE accomplish their task of not letting the HMC advance upon them.

In retaliation to this ambush the HMC order the demolition of the Bridge Network in Obmar Village they head in with a strong force but are met by a USDE garrison. They fail to get near the bridge network, and consequently fail their mission.

Rumours reach Cmdr Scott about the HMC’s lab in Westumbo, so a squad of USDE’s finest began a patrol to the City. Unfortunately for them they can across a large troop of HMC Soldiers that were repairing a communications tower and were attacked and forced into a retreat.
Convinced that the lab was more than a rumour Col Mayo, (once spec ops) began an infiltration mission to Westumbo. Taking his time and narrowly dodging a HMC patrol he began a sweep of the City looking for the Lab, finding it after a short while he stole all available Intel and destroyed the lab with an explosive. He then began his tactical withdrawal; his efforts were almost flaunted by his own forces which opened fire upon him as he paced through the Grand Canyon, luckily at the last second they realised who he was and supported him in getting his valuable cargo back to USDE HQ.

A similar opportunity to the one completed by the USDE was offered to the HMC by The Brain. This was greedily accepted by Drask Hoffmann, who dispatched Cmdr Snarf to meet with The Brain. The Brain then sold him the location of a cache of $75,000,000 in laundered money. What happened next is somewhat of a mystery, safe passage was given to the Cmdr back to his HQ but for some reason the HMC failed to mobilise in time and Drask Hoffmann who decided to go for the package himself did not collect it in time. Money was not well spent, Drask Hoffmann was not happy and ordered the Hoffmann Hordes to execute any USDE on contact.

Due to the global credit crunch raw minerals such as petroleum have become harder and harder to attain. The Oil Depot on Rainbow Trail has been low in resources for weeks. However holding and controlling this point would give the force holding it the ability to transport Crude Oil out safely which is extremely profitable. For this reason both forces battled it out for a final control of the Oil Depot as the fire fights intensifies, a stunning tactical order was issued by the USDE Command: a time delayed request with The Brain gave the USDE an Air Strike on the Oil Depot. 1455h arrived, as did the air strike which wiped out the 20 HMC troops dug in around the Depot. The USDE troops led by Col Mayo moved in and surrounded the depot. Any HMC Troops that survived the air strike were mercilessly gunned down as they fled the area. The USDE then took control of the Oil Depot at 1448h and claimed the $10,000,000 for the 1500h Hold and Control along with the $25,000,000 for completing their mission. These actions and orders were a remarkable combination of precision timing, perfect communication, good execution, and effective deployment from the U.S. Diamond Exports Col Mayo and Cmdr Scott.

A war ridden Battlefield was the final contact between the HMC and USDE:
History tells us that the Invasion of the Bridges has seen some of the most gruelling battles throughout time. Was this any different? It really wasn’t. The USDE launched onto the HMC’s river bank from Landing Craft they were heavily met by Hoffmann Forces. The USDE’s goal to plant their colours on enemy turf was a loosing battle, the HMC succeeded in preventing the USDE from advancing onto their territory. The battle was ruthless showing continuous casualties on the USDE’s side as once again the HMC proved their superiority in the head to head fire fights.

Summary.

February’s Episode saw several new twists; the introduction of Diamond Wars own printed currency in the form of very realistic Blood Dollars in $1,000,000 denominations. Also the character called ‘The Brain’ with his varied menu of Arms and Services available in exchange for Blood Money. The USDE Command structure adapted more quickly to the changes to theatre.

The pattern of the day showed the Hoffmann Minex Corporation to be dominant in heavy contact scenarios (with the exception of the Oil Depot final Siege, of course!), with the United States Diamond Exports superior in smaller contacts, planning and coordination.

Throughout the day, both the HMC and USDE completed two sniper missions a piece, the HMC gathered 8 photo recon missions, with the USDE gathering 7. Both the Corporations collected 6 Diamond Ore Crates each.

The USDE spent $45,000,000 total, on Intel, airlifts and Air Strikes.
The HMC spent $35,000,000 total on Intel and air lifts.

Throughout Episode 2, the HMC earned $259,000,000 and the USDE earned $300,000,000, giving the USDE the honors on the day.

Overall, after 2 Episodes, the HMC have a total of $461,000,000 and the USDE are only slightly in the lead with $489,000,000

The next Episode of Diamond Wars is on the 29th March, 2009, ONLY at National Paintball Fields, Bassetts Pole, Birmingham, England.
