delrin bolt care

Bone

Emulsified!
...ok i just got a second hand delrin bolt for me spyder and its appears that it has seen a few knocks in its time. Its got the odd small dent and dimple along the delrin part and i was just wondering what the best way to repair (or improve) this is?

I'm not sure sanding delrin is wise if i want a nice pollished finish...
I have polishing bits for a dremmel tool....would that be abit rough on the delrin? How about the nice fluffy ones for finishing? Is it gonna get hot and melt if i do anything like this?

...i'm afraid i'm not too familiar with the properties of delrin.....yet.

oh yeah...i could just leave it.....will the small dents (and token slightly rased "crater walls") have any adverse effect?

Thanks for the info guys! I knew about not oiling it......but i thought it was coz delrin was self lubricating, although im not entirely sure how a plastic lubricates itself!

..and i know about the groove for the ball detent :)...these dents look like the thing has been tapped against an edge a coupla times....

High grain sand paper it is!

Better Things 2 Do!
As for not oiling it - I believe that was when the original delrin bolts came and things have changed a bit since then.

from an old post by dangerous brian about it with a link to a little more info.

here's the link incase you cant see it below click here

right.
theres 2 types of delrin bolt out there, some have no o-rings, some have the groves so can be used with or without o-rings.

o-ringless = no need to oil, BUT as the bore size varies slightly from batch to batch of cocker bodies, unless its a near enouph perfect fit you will get gas blowing up the feed tube, which as we all know will not help you paint feed ;) ;)

o-ringed = YES you will need to oil the bolt as smartecosse says to help keep rings supple and not causeing major bolt stick. good thing about these type is u can test without rings or with, having the groves there wont make any difference other than giving you the option :)

as for the swelling, alot of people are thinking of how the old nylon bolts used to swell ( and the did swell like a b*tch :p )
delrin dosnt seem to swell, or swell enouph to be measured.
have a look here for more on this .link

there, sorted :D
