OK, A question.

I have a standard black Impulse. (done a few bits to it but it looks the same.)

I have a friend who is an amazing artist and want him to possibly do a custom p8nt job on it.

Any tips?

Is it possible?

If Yes, what type of paint do you use? can I just paint over the black or does it need treating first?

Cheers

Philip

I would suggest rubbing down the anodizing on it then using enamal paint which is extemly strong and can take a beating. Make sure you use some sort of degreaser on the anodizing to clean it first.

As an airbrush person myself I'd recommend coating the parts to be painted with some sort of primer. Since it's going to be painted on metal, I'd recommend car body primer (available at Halfords).
Before priming it, like Philip suggested, make sure that the parts are clean. Washing them in a soapy water should fix this (don't forget to let them dry...duh).
Once its primed, slap on the paint.
Once the paint has dried, it's time to put on the varnish. Enamels can take some punishment, but you really want to put on a good coat of varnish (or rather, several thin coats of varnish).
Make sure that the paint is well and truly dry before putting on the varnish. Leave it for a few nights to dry before varnishing. Varnish and paint do not dry at the same speed, which may cause the paint to crack, or it can create what is known as a vapor trap. This is when the varnish has dried and the vapors coming out of the drying paint are caught underneath the layer of varnish, creating butt ugly bubbles in the artwork.

Good luck.
