This has been covered quite a lot in the past but generally you dont have to. If you are flying, make sure the air tank is empty and put some paintball mags inside the main luggage as it makes it sooooooooo much easier to explain if they do open your case.

I have never driven anyway, but I am sure the scenario would still be the same except not having to dump the air in your tank - not sure, maybe someone else could clarify that one.

I could b wrong, and I most likely am, but I'm pretty sure your not alowed to have a tank in your suit case. You can have everything else, just not the tank. When I was flying from California to New York, I had to send my tank by ground, cuz the people at the air port wouldn't let me take it. And that was b4 the security tightened too.
