Hey everyone this is my first post...I am about to purchase my first gun. i have read up alot on this subject and i have come to the choice between a tippman custom 98 or one of the guns in the spyder line. I understand the 98's customization capabilities, but i have also heard of the the spyder's tournament potency. I am not sure whether ill follow the path of rec ball or tourney...i know that is an important decision to make. is there possibly a gun that is suitable for both? does a newbie really need all that custimization on his first guN? Do i really need to think that far ahead as in terms of tournament play? Any and all info will be greatly appreciated.

cockers sure are nice, and i had one as my first marker, but i would go for something simple to run, like an impy, tis fast and very upgradeable when you move to tourney.
i know they say leave a cocker alone and it will be great, but things do go wrong, and can sometimes be a pain to sort out.

but its up to you, i prefer shooting a cocker, coz they rawk dude, but for simplicity, i would go impulse or similar

Yeah

I was thinking about getting a cocker for a while...But I couldn't find a good brand name that everyone said was nice...they just say "get a cocker." IDK that may sound noobish cuz idk what im talking about. I dont really mind fixing stuff if my cocker needs it cuz i like doing all that technical stuff as long as its not like freaking taking the entire gun apart or stuff like that. What Cocker would u suggest?

any.........the basic marker is the same.......it's a cocker. The other stuff is what's been done to it afterwards. So eclipse is a cocker which paintball planet have tricked out. Dye cocker........cocker with extras by dye. Best bet is to look around, then post the specs to someone you trust (and knows cockers) better still, buy it from someone you trust.
Look on the p8ntballer home page for the reviews section......that will give you a good idea of some of the markers available.

A basic second hand cocker will do you.........all of the other bits can be added later. (but you can usualy get a pretty well enhanced one for a decent price).
Go for a recent model.......it's a lot easier to get the parts. (After 2000)

Autococker all the way

Screw it just go the whole hog now. if you don't you'll just end up getting a spyder or something then buying lot of upgrades (we've all done it) then you'll realise that no ammount of upgrades is going to bring your gun up to the standard you really want, so you'll sell it for about a fith of the price you paid and buy your self a autococker.

I have a complete set up if you really want to get something that you wouldn't every have to upgrade and will out shoot most markers out there. I got lots of kit to go with it. if your interested send me your e-mail and i'll send you some pics and info

decide wether you are going tourney or rec........ no point buying a high end marker for rec (you won't be allowed to use it) and no point having an entry level for tourney (even bottom div teams are mainly running high-end markers). Alternatively, buy an entry level, play more rec and enter tourney later. Take it slow and don't buy on impulse....... lots of new players get ripped off by people who should know better.
