I'vee just had quite a night with a friend. He thinks that since WWI, a global conspiracy abounds, involving JFK falling "back-and-to-the-left", with designs for this conspiracy to control us (for some unbeknownst reason)

I basically told him, "I don't give a toss, let the chips fall where they may. If someone thinks they can control what happens in the world (throughout history, like he was suggesting) they have delusions of grandeaur"

Anyone else give a toss? Or should we just hold on and wait for our Tyler Durden?

Not heard that one but I had a similar conversation in the pub about chemtrails. He asserted that contrails left by aircraft where really dosed with chemicals (hence chemtails) in order for the government to contol the populace. I pointed out that this would be the most innefectual way of spreading a chemical due to loads of variables such as wind speed, direction, rain etc. He couldn't see my side of the argument so I countered with a theory of my own.
Have you ever wondered why you can travel for miles through road works and never see a single person working? It's because the government hasn't got enough storage space for all the cones they own. The only place they can store them is in the last place you'd suspect - a motorway! Basically it's costing us tax payers millions in hold ups and lost worktime, all to save about £50,000 per year. It's wrong and you know it...

heard some lately about something called HAARP. Basically, some guys are blaming earthquakes and Tsunamis in Asia on the American Government using this HAARP device. Basically it is supposed to push part of the atmosphere outwards and reflect its energy into the ground, which will cause an earthquake

If you take a look at the people who believe in these conspiracy theories then there seems to be [to me at least] a common-denominative feature in that the people all seem to fit the same sorta character trait.

I don't think there is a single term to describe them, leastwise I can't think of one, but they seem the sort of person who are nerdy, not exactly eye-candy, not ignorant but have just about enough education to appreciate certain aspects of the world's complexities but not enough to understand them.
They are half-way to being somewhat anti-social, have absolutely no dress sense and lastly, and I suppose one of the most important characteristics of their behaviour profile, they are weak-minded individuals, open to whatever they think will make them look more interesting.
Oh, and one more thing, they are also contrary by nature, and whatever conspiracy they spout manages to fill their pathetic lives and give it meaning.

And so, conspiracy theories are for idiots ... in my humble opinion that is :)

Ah the age old control theories. Well let's face it the government is controlling us and they will continue to do so because that's the way society has evolved.

They don't need chemicals or anything, just just need the threat of punishment to stop most of us and notice I said threat of it, it doesn't even need to happen anymore. Hence why you won't do anything wrong if you think a CCTV camera is watching you.

The icelandic volcano happened because of all the white women showing too much skin. Not a conspiracy theory...
