virus (or a workmate having a laugh)

I'd invest in some good anti-virus software, and make sure the virus definitions are up to date.

If this is already the case, I think a workmate of yours is 'avin a lorff...

Your profile at work has probably prevented you from changing the default home page, but it sounds like you've managed to install some ad-ware (like Gator or something) that is replacing popups with porn links and stuff.

Odd, because you'd think if they restrict you from changing your default home page then they'd also prevent crap like this from being installed... :(

Can you see an unusual icon in your system tray or startup group?

You could always use regedit.exe to manually change the key setting. You shouldn't mess with regedit.exe if you don't know what you are doing, but if you do, the setting can be found under your USER settings...

Software/Microsoft/Internet Explorer/Main/Start Page

...hope that helps.

There are utilities out there that will show you what gets run on startup (as it might even be set up before you open IE).

Go to tucows, or cnet (or whatever other freeware site you like) and look for desktop optimisation tools (not necessarily those exact words)

I've got a utility set called TuneUp Utilities. One of th things that does is shows me everything that tries to run on startup (whether it's system registry, user registry or shortcuts in startup folders). Something like that should help, but I think you'll also have to go to your IT dept to get help on this.

Don't forget that they're probably looking at the list of sites that you're visiting as well! :D
