Whats the legality of this ..

You should display one of these in your car if you carry Compressed Air tanks about yeh..

Do you have to then inform your insurance company that you are doing this, and if so will this raise your insurance ? possibly invalidate a claim if you haven't done so .Anyone know... the thought of phoning my insurance company doesn't appeal.

Pretty sure it doesn't effect your insurance at all, its more of a courtesy so if you car is on fire you dont blow up any firemen, A.B is a firefighter he would know drop him a pm ;)

I'm talking about 12 Litre Dive tanks, emptying them before carrying them would kind of defeat the purpose.

as a diver, i can only say that all vehicles carrying such tanks are advised to strap them down in some way, and to display a compressed gas sign... this is not a legal requirement to the best of my knowledge,. nor does this affect your insurance in any way, and like carrying paintball kit on planes, it is best not to ring them and chat about it in relation to your policy, else they will only worry and find something wrong ;) ...etc

hope that helped in some way :)

did my ADR Course 3 years ago for transport of gas cylinders/compressed gasses flamable gasses, unfortunatly tanks used for diving I.E Breathing air did not come up in the course, as the tank is classed as compressed air container you do need a licence to carry any type of cylinder for work or private use, the only time you dont need to display or need a licence for transportation is if you are carrying less than 200 liters. The best place to find out is to phone the local police station or find out from the FTA
