I am seeing lots of posts calling for integration, both domestically and internationally.

I would like to argue, or at least suggest that competition, when it comes to organisers, is actually good and should be embraced by the end users/paying customer, not feared.

Now, first of all I would like to point out that I will be paraphrasing a lot here as I don’t have time to find the specific quotes so apologies if I mis-quote and/or mis-represent – this is not done with any malice intent…

Let’s start at home; there was a thread about the Campaign promotion saying that there would be more TV/Radio presence if it wasn’t for the PA and their claims. Now, I can appreciate why that might piss on the Campaign bonfire, but for the end user, let’s read between the lines here. To me that sounds like some of the media that Campaign are speaking to (Campaign being an international event) have already been spoken to by the PA (a domestic).

From my point of view, as an end user – that can only be good? A domestic series has already upped the stakes sufficiently that an international has to do more – that’s good for the end user, not bad surely?

Pro tour – at least part of the incentive of creating the pro tour was other promoters were titsed off at what the PA was doing/trying to do. Surely this is good for us, the end user? After all, you pays your money, you takes your pick. The more organisers going after the same group of customers, the better value/event the end user gets. The model for this can be seen clearly on the corporate scale, why are we so ‘piss in our pants scared’ of it when it comes to paintball?

I am now reading how the NPPL is bad if they come to Europe – how so??? I mean seriously, does anyone believe that Campaign would be at the NEC (one of the finest and best known venues in the UK) this year if it wasn’t for the stakes probable next year? The threat of the NPPL coming to Euroland has obviously rattled the cages of the Millennium people, no? I mean, last year, generally, I heard lots of pissing and moaning about venues etc This year, Paris was, by most accounts, a resounding success, with CC05 set to follow that trend. You think this would happen if the Millennium was the only international tournament series?

I want organisers to battle for my custom, I want domestic and international series’ to slug it out for my stack of Charles Dickens’ – I think you (if an end user) should too. The moment competition is lot, the competitors loose their edge, in the arena of event organisers, the competitors loosing their edge means piss poor events for the end user.

Discuss…

As long as organisers don't queer the pitch for everyone when it comes to talking to the media and potential outside sponsors, then competition is good.

It's not bad for teams who play couple of majors per season, they get to choose the best events. It's not bad for the players when organizers do their best at organizing events.

But it's bad for teams who play the whole season. It's bad for teams who want to play at the highest level. The uncertainty where to put resources and what to play. Let's take the Russians again as an example. What if the NXL/PSP folds, what are they going to play? NPPL div 1, Millennium div 1? After sinking tons of money they would have to play lower divisions only because they bet on the wrong horse.

It's bad for the euro pball if we can't build a good, competitive and self-sustaining tournament series. Europe needs to create their own heroes like Dynasty, XSV etc. We already have few high profile teams and getting them to play in a single european series could create a positive boost in european tournament paintball.

Good points, well made Sherman.

However, in Euroland for 2006 I thought NPPL was just doing a couple of events. Won't that just keep the Millennium on their toes in 2006 by ensuring their events are equal to the NPPL's?

As it stands I imagine the cost for all but the pro UK/Euro NPPL teams (and probably some of them also) to play a full 2006 season in the NPPL would be prohibitive.

But at least having the NPPL present in Europe/UK for some of the time will up the stakes for anyone else putting on an event their?

With regards the Russian example, I acknowledge your point, but would NPPL be all it was today without the need to conquer the NXL/PSP in the popularity stakes? Too bad it was the RL that wasted the cash on NXL (or maybe not, who knows) but somebody has to loose for someone else to win, in this case it seems, the teams that followed the NPPL pro league.
