ok,

so i know the basics, but was just wondering why exactly to guns die in the cold.(battery's, o-rings and all that shizzle)

My dm6 last weekend just died off after about 20 shots, even upping the dwell to 22, and upping the LPR a wee bit didnt help.

Why do some guns excel in the cold, and others die.?

Are you using the correct Lube ? Ive run a DM and shockers in Fekin Scotland and never had an issue ,and it's subzero round here sometimes...Shocker lube all the way..

I know thats not the technical answer your looking for but it;s the only reason i've ever seen..

**** Batteries.

well i was using warped sportz cinnamon lube (designed for shockers) its been working perfect upto last weekend when it just died, i "replaced" the battery with a new one that had only been sitting in a Ego for a night (ego shows its full), and still nothing.

I've just stripped it, put it back to stock, and lubed up with dow33. so will give it a bash again next weekend.

but why they die is what im wanting to know (hate not knowing things )

from a chemsits point of view you'll have the following to deal with due to lower temperature:

1) slower chemical reaction in the battery producing lower current.
2) thickening of lubricants as they nearer their setting point.
3) change in air volume and pressure.
4) increase in hardness of o-rings.

generally if you are using a lower viscosity lube it will probably thicknen more dramatically at the lower temperature - although a thick lube may set completely - it all depends what's in the blend. sleek or equivalent dow33 is a fairly good all rounder for a grease, oils can be a little more tempremental.

I ran an M6 over the 06/07 winter, and had the same issue, it just came down to keeping it warm and the lube slick.

Stay away from the original Dye Slick lube (green gloop) in the winter, as that just kills it. I understand you are using a different lube designed for shockers, but I'd suggest either Dye's winter formula (white stuff) or just bang on some proper shocker lube, don't go OTT on the lube either.

Keep you're dwell at stock, but up the LPR pressure enough so that you don't get insane drop-off in the first 10-15 shots.

I used to always try and keep my DM as warm as possible, i've even had it under my armpit before games, and only removing it when the 10 second call had been made, I also kept it in a bag when not playing, or in someones car.

Regular maintenance checks on the bolt o-rings are also handy, keep replacing them on regular intervals, even if blatant signs of wear and tear aren't showing.

To put it all in short;
- Stock settings
- Turn up the LPR (Efficiency does drop slightly, but i had played at the back countless times and never had an issue)
- Winter-formula lube/shocker lube, keep it nice and slippery without over lubinating :)
- Regular maintenance checks
- Keep the marker as warm as possible all the time.

Hope that might help :)

Hi guys.

As the cold weather has finally started to draw in, I thought I would post some tips on how to keep your guns trouble free during the Winter months.

1. Make sure that your no. 17 o-rings (inside top hat and beer-can) are good. The bolt should be moving nice and easy with very little resistance.
Also check your No. 15 bolt sail o-ring is in good condition (middle of the 3 o-rings on the bolt itself)

If these o-rings are offering too much resistance to the bolt or are damaged.....replace.

2. Remove old lube and replace with a good, thin lube.
Dow 33 works very well.

3. Increase your dwell by a couple of increments. Factory setting is 15 so you can go up to around 17 or 18.

4. If you are still experiencing drop-off then turn up the LPR untill it shoots correctly. Factory setting is 5 full turns out but all guns are slightly different so adjust till your gun is shooting as it should.

That should be it ladies and gents. Any other questions and/or problems and a quick visit Here should be all you need.

:)
This should help.

well I'll start using the dow33 all the time, as i said, all is back to stock, and a fresh battery will be in it for next weekend. But if all else fail, i'll just use my ego (which isn't really a bad thing, as i love the damm thing).

Damm guns, why cant they be good in the cold, would be so perfect :)
