Probably a stupid question - but are CO2 bottles OK to paint? I wanna paint mine up to match my marker.

Just thought I'd ask in case for some reason paint will eat through the bottle and cause a messy accident or something!

If so - what's best? Car spray, hammerite etc?

Well, the bottles are usually steel, so anything that'll paint onto steel will paint onto yuor bottle. But most bottles already have a black (?paint?) finish, so just about any outdoorsy / tough finish paint should be ok. As for specific types, I dont know. Paint certainly wont damage your tank.

Tom

PS I accept no responsibility for anything that may or may not happen to you as a direct or indirect result of painting or not painting your bottle.

After reading ur post a few times i think that u want to hand paint ur bottle with spary/bursh paints?
No i wuddnt bother cos when the bottle frezzes it reacts-ie the bottle will slightly(i do mean slightly so done worry) contract so the paint will most likly crack after a while of xpandin&contracting as metals do cos they react with heat.
Secondly when the bottle frezzez or has the wet effect(the ice from frezzing melts to water-duh!)that attacks the paint which the paint dosent like.Paint wont harm the bottle but if u paint it,ur workmanship on the bottle will look real tatty after a short while.
U are best to look a round paintball shops for bottle covers or anodizing jobs cos they'll last alot longer & most likly look a lot better by far.:)

Thanks guys - I was wondering about the paint holding up when freezing! The expanding/contracting hadn't occurred to me.

Just to clarify - the marker is a red coloured Inferno - so I was planning on painting the bottle red to match.

I think I'll leave it boring black and look out for covers in the shops :)
Thanks :)

Cool one other thing, Red (paints in general) is more prone to fading-red to pink like u see on old red cars like escorts, orions ets (cos the nature of the pigments used to make the colour red)then u have to t-cut it which is hard work & pointless.
Get a nice bottle cover, smartparts, dye or a cheap cover (in grey only) is one that planet supply - economy bottle cover which is a sh1t load less money.

I used smooth hammerite (smoothrite) on mine and it was great, it took about a year for the first chinks to appear around the base and about another 6 months for the first flaking on the body.

One thing to consider is that the paint must not hide any defects with the bottle, some places will not fill it otherwise.

Also you will need to make sure the dates etc are still visable, so you now when it will need retesting, again if these cannot be read most places will refuse to fill the bottle for you
