CHILDREN AND SPORT
now i was talking too a friend that teaches primary school kids,
know we got talking about sports events at schools and he said that at that age, sport was all about taking part and not about winning or losing,
as the kids that weren`t good at sport would get upset.
now i said what about the kids that were good at sport, but weren`t good at english, maths etc etc,
was it fair on them, that they could not excell and win at something, like the kid that was good at english etc and got praised for it.
why does this country teach kids this, then moan down the line when we are crap at sports at an older age.
why do other countries encourage kids as young as possible about winning and losing, but we go all pc
discuss

I read the title to this thread and thought "funny video" but was extremely disappointed upon opening the thread :(

the justification behind 'it's all about taking part' is that sport is by nature competitive and so kids are going to feel bad if they are always losing as opposed to academics in which it's about individual performance. whether it's right to encourage/discourage winning in sport i'm not entirely sure. what i absolutely hate to see is kids that are used to achieve their parent's dreams and are forced into competing from a very young age in multiple sports etc. i've seen some of my peers grow up who have been made to undergo classes/sports/tuition and they lack a lot of independence to make their own decisions nowadays and often conform to a high degree with those around them.

i think praise is due for performing well in sport but it isn't fair to tarnish it by essentially making 'everybody a winner'. this equally applies that even where kids don't win they should be praised just as much for putting in a commendable effort. it's really key to successful development to receive praise for the correct actions during childhood (psychology 101 :p)

on a side not i am equally disappointed that this thread did not contain some black humour on children and the effects of alcohol

I reckon that instead of all this pc mumbo jumbo we just make the kids that come last run round the field or do extra push ups like they used to... Make them not want to be last...

LAST DOES EXIST AND IT IS BAD.

There I said it!!

Disgrace of an education system, mollycoddled, pussy whipped, environmentally friendly, tree hugging muppets who used to come last at everything anyway should not be allowed to interfere with how the next generation compete. Most likely spending the 13 weeks holiday they get choosing which TV company to invest their "Hard Earned" wages into so when the next lot of fat lazy kids roll outta school and buy one (with their job seekers allowance) their retirement fund gets bigger!

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
