You need to have R.I.P. on your PC

Plug your serial cable into your PC and grip. Turn on your grip frame. The firmware will only work on some boards.

Make sure your frame is using a microswitch board with the panasonic rechargable battery.

Now start R.I.P (normally Start > Programs > R.I.P > R.I.P.)

When it finishes loading, go to Function > Put Firmware program (this opens the Open window)

Locate your *.rgf file and then click Open button.

The grip will start updating itself - this will take around 5 minutes so be patient.

All done...

To clarify what Ray said a little bit

Make sure your board is a leaf switch board with a rechargeable battery not a 9V

(dome switches are still microswitches, and there are various makes of battery being used in the grips now).

The best way to be safe is to have your grip hooked up to the R.I.P. program, and do a get, then check the firmware version in R.I.P. - it's at the bottom left, next to the date. If it says 1.X.X then DO NOT use the newest firmwares from race (or the monkey firmware for that matter).

If it says 2.X.X (and you have a rechargeable battery) then you are good to go.

If you are installing the monkey firmware, your grip will crash, as it changes the way the grip works - once the firmware has finished being put to the grip you will have to unplug the battery and leave it 10 seconds or so to get teh grip to reset.

Best thing to do (apart from being very careful about the modes depending on where you're playing ;) ) is to follow the 5 minute timing guide over on the raceguns forum - make sure you've read it over a couple of times before starting, and first few times it may take ten or fifteen minutes, but it's worth it to get the best from your cocker.

Basically, there are so many different possible combinations of bits on a cocker that it's impossible to give a set of figures that are good for any particular gun - even two guns with identical bits can come out with radically different timing values.
