There have been a load of postings regarding the Campaign Cup, both good and bad so I just thought I would put forward my opinion (for what it is worth).
The site was fantastic. Paintball at a major venue, what more could you ask for - apart from maybe more than just the 2 signs near the entrance to the site. Maybe a little more signage would have helped, but maybe the locals would have nicked 'em!!!
The fields were on the small side compared to what some people would have expected, but as a novice team playing our first big event, anything would have been a challenge. It proved that you had to adapt to survive.
Astroturf was not a problem, apart from the odd grazed elbow.
The marshalling was very good, we had one or two bad calls, but so did every team, so it balanced out. However the Banzais really excelled. All power to your elbow dudes, you were the best. The rest of you were not far behind though.
Now to the downers :-
I thought that all bottles were to be checked prior to filling ( as at the rest of the Millenium events). One of our guys purchased a new Angel Air because his bottle was one month out of test and could not get it re- tested in time. Then it was never checked (or anybodies for that matter).
"All players are to have barrel socks or secure barrel bungs. Squeegees etc are not acceptable." was the basis of what was said at the captains meeting. Is that why in the finals, one player from Diablo Image was seen leaving the fields without anything in his barrel, while LaSoya left the field with a squeegee in his gun (at least twice).
Yes, the netting between some of the dead zones was a bit low, as 2 of our players got shot from another field before our game started.
Jerry Brauns speech was too long.
Now to the uppers :-
The venue was fantastic.
After the problems of the first day, it ran on (if not before) schedule.
It was a pleasure to play. Astroturf did cause a few burns to our front players, but playing at the back, who cares ??
The trade stands were selling way too much gear, it cost me a fortune. (Is that a good thing, or a bad thing ?)
Yes, there will allways be room for improvement at any tournament, but who has ever got it 100% correct.
Lets give a bit of constructive criticism and hope the organisers take note.
On a personal note :-
The incident at the Quality - I guarantee it was not any of Tremmor, as they were busy getting p!55ed in the bar with Rocky & Chris.
Thanks to Diablo for the paint.
Thanks to WDP for giving us loads of stuff and not wanting to be paid for it (yet).
Thanks to my team for finishing 30+ at the event.
And last but by no means last, thanks to Sir Nobby Squires and all his crew for putting on the event. It wasn't perfect, but who is??
You all did a very good job, and all power to your elbow.
If you need a hand next year, give us a call as we will be down playing, and don't mind giving up a days work to help you out!!!
P'D Off
P S This new board is great isn't it. Sorry I have been away for so long, something to do with Her Majestys Pleasure.
