If it seems like the post I put was taking your criticism the wrong way it might be the lack of sleep from the straight drive from Toulouse that makes it seem that way. I know personally that the footage is not the best but for anyone who cannot make it to an event seeing something is probably better than nothing.
The thing about being off field, it makes it even harder to be able to follow the games due to the netting, once things move to far it put the focus off due to the netting, the visuals are never the the best, etc. It was more of a joke for me to say hey pay for the media pass. If anyone wants to though please feel free to you will get love and adoration but probably not a job at PGi.
What were you expecting to get out of it?
As you have seen on the website there are no ads, I do the video and site work for nothing which takes money out of my pocket to give additional exposure to a sport that I live for. Its sort of like event photographers they run the chance of not getting any money for their work but they have the option to get paid by teams, companies or magazines. As most people have noticed the sport is in a down fall due to the economy. If players want to keep playing what we love the industry needs some support and not just the hey I got a new loader/tank/whatever product. While from the position of a player I can see that it can come off as just funneling hits to the website when it actually does nothing but increase the exposure online for companies, teams, players, etc. by making sure that people who are not in the sport find the correct information. I will not go into the tech details as they are boring and not totally related to paintball but I have worked in the tech industry and viral marketing will help out a bit during this slump.
For the PGi comment I am sure that I will leave things up to those folks but I do get paid to write in other jobs so maybe I might look into that.
On the other hand I was on field for the Nexus vs Kuala Lumpur Xtioner Rascal game in the Intercontinental Cup (this weekend of course) since I know some of the guys from the Xtioner's and this was a huge step for them. These types of additions to events grow the sport in other regions which hopefully will keep companies in the industry around so we can enjoy what we love to do.
(For the NK game Connor gets hit when he moves in the snake so keeping the camera on a player that still is alive which can make a move makes sense. Plus that footage was for Dave to see any errors made in the game and correct them for the next event.
