The week-end is now over and Campaign Cup's new home now comes to its end as the night draws in. All that is left is the mass clean up to restore Esher Rugby club to its normal self. whilst we players,Marshalls and those involed look back over the last couple of days what were your thoughts of the new grounds, the tournament itself, the enitre layout of the site.

My only problems were that:-

The staging areas were great the area themselves could have been a little wider. it was nice to see some chairs around for the wives/girlfriends and children to sit upon and watch our now spectator/ family sport. It was good to see in the friday morning bottles of water appearing too along with fresh fruit at the gate leading to the trade village but this was only on friday why?. Trade stands were great and with lots of amazing deals going on it was for some paintball heaven. i could go on about the rest of the good things but there are some minus points too.

The minus

Where were the bins, we paintball players really do know how to use them and would have used them. The toilets were to far away from the players staging area and after a few hours were distgusting. The food stands were ok but some paintball players do not really eat junk food, with all the energy being burned off we need to replenish it with the right food.

Last but not least. What did you think!

I posted this else where(and if you've read it already I apologise) but this thread is more relevant and I havent changed my opinion.

The venue might not of been as glamourous as Crystal Palace but it did the job. My wife used the toilets in the clubhouse, which were cleaned hourly and even then she said they were disgusting (I could say but what she told me is truly unbeliveable!! :( )

The Trade stands, whilst not as many, did have a lot of stuff available. The major gripe I have is companies who go and don't take their full range of products - WGP, nice markers but nothing else? and they weren't the only ones.

In terms of play, X-Ball is where its at! I only watched a few 7 man games and even short games seemed boring compared to X Ball. I think the fact that the crowd can get involved really adds to atmosphere. Maybe it's time 7-man allowed the same the involvement?

Overall it was good and if I could of got back Sunday for the finals, I would of.

my view

The 'team tent' set-up was great, tho not quite big enough with all the kit etc, as previously mentioned. My main gripe would have to be the lack of toilets and their location. Toilets in the players area would have saved the trek to the back of the x-ball fields and the need to pass 'security' every time we needed a pee! The ladies loos were kept fairly clean and were serviced by cleaners regularly, tho i was disgusted to find some male baller had pi55ed in the SINK of the ladies loos, all over the shelf and taps and onto the floor! Was that REALLY necessary??!! (I say male baller cos it was physiclly impossible for a female to do that ;) )The organisation of the tourney was good and the free campsite so close to the staging area was great! Food choice was very limited and more choice would have been good. The free water and fruit was a nice touch too! :) Security on the trade stand side of the players area was a bit slack especially on Friday and the Tsunami pit crew easily walked in and out with team kit without being asked for a pass. I was only asked for my players pass on one field (Tomahawk) too.

Overall think it lacked the 'grandeur' of Crystal Palace but it made up for it in other ways. All in all, not bad for a first time venue and i'm sure 2k5 will see some improvements.

Hmm where do i start??

Good points

Field marshals - top job fellas and ladies :)
Field Layout -good although access was limited at times.
Sign posts - Nice AA sign posts from far enough away to count
X-Ball - Great games guys :)

Average points
Team tents - nice idea but could have been a little bigger and better laid out/spaced.
Parking - Plenty of it and nice and close
Trade stands - Great to see a few different stalls :)
Security - Pretty much top job, but i guess the "missing gun" threads will still appear :(

Bad Points
Toilets - Too few, too dirty and too damn far away from the players who are paying!
Food - Again too far away from the players and only 1 stall for all those people and where was the choice???
Spectators area - Bleechers for 2 fields only and tricky access for the others.
Wow factor - Now i know the palace was gonna be hard to follow but there was no atmosphere :(
Chrony judges - I think everyone knows the hassels these muppets caused.
Communication - Again great for the X-ball side, but kinda lacking on the CC side, also a little more info on Xball times etc would have been nice.

Now the feeling i have picked up from both Apoc teams seems to be along the lines of feeling a little cheated.

The whole event seems to have been laid out to accomodate the X-Ball rather than the CC itself. Toilets, food etc being around the arena and away from the players and lack of viewing areas for the CC fields. I admit great for spectators but not for the players. Now the spectators get in for free we pay a hefty sum to be there!

Now considering one of the reasons for moving the CC from CP was the lack of space and fields, to then be confronted with just 5 smallish fields that had been crammed together it got me wondering if there was maybe a financial reason for the move to such a small venue!

I hate to say it but we took a brand new squad along to CC this weekend, they were so hyped after all the stories about how great CC is, how the crew really look after the players and its one not to be missed, and I felt embarresed.

It begs the question what did CC supply the players that a local event doesnt, and at over twice the price?????

Now im not faulting the staff, the marshals, the teams etc you guys really made the event happen and kept a smile on my face.

I am no doubt gonna get some flames, but the general feeling I got from everyone this weekend was that it was a let down and that somehow we as players of CC were funding the X-Ball.

Personally if future CCs are to follow this one, Ill happily take my money elsewhere.

The Campaign Cup was not that bad, considering it was not Crystal Palaces.

I mast ask one question!!

The marshals testing the gums, used so much paint trying to find trigger bounce that we worked it out to about 2 boxes of paint over the tournament for the team.

That’s a good £60 we spent on paint that we never used?

I would like to thank all of WDP & Andy Piper from Evil on help us out over this event.

I do think X Ball is a very exiting sport but at the end of the day, it’s the 7-man part of the sport that brings in the money. Its about time they went back to looking after 7-man players.

The stadium just had X Ball, but one of the fields was falling down due to the wind. I think the MS need to rethink about the main players not the hand full of X Ball teams. This was the first time in ALL the Campaign Cups (Do Mean All, I was At The First 1 and every one after that) that I have been to, that went backwards.

Cost Vs Value, this event fail to meet up to its previous events.

Well that’s my 10p worth, might not mean much, but I said my bit.

Another year of campaign gone by and my emotions are still pretty mixed up. Their is lots of room for improvement and i hope Niall is taking note of this thread as there have been some very valid issues raised. I'll try not to repeat anything that anyone else has said so here goes
for
  1. The staging area being much closer made it easier to get to fields quicker on quick turnaround
  2. Marshalling was catching out a lot of cheaters and punishing them correctly(this is only from the games i got to watch). There were definetely bad calls but these seemed to be outweighed by the good ones
  3. air filling station and chrony queues were virtually non existent for whole weekend
  4. water and fruit a nice touch
against
    1. Venue had no sense of granduer about it
    2. Paintstorm(see other thread)
    3. toilets
    4. no P.A. system to call games. no music.
    5. Staging area did not have the same buzz about it as it encouraged teams to be more insular(hiding in tents and not talking to people)
    6. Swedish reffing crew on jags vs powertrip xball game being the most biased crew i think i've seen. The jags didn't deserve to win but the scoreline was more flattering to powertrip than it should have been.
The whole of our team really enjoyed themselves but I agree with mighty dwarf that the event has lost some of its magic, however, this is to be expected at a new venue. But i think we should be thankful it didn't rain heavily as predicted. The venue would not have withstood rain like c.p. would of, half the tents would have had rain blowing into them and the paths between the fields would have been a muddy bog. Teams would have had to wait outside with no cover from rain. Marshalling quality and turnaround time would have deterioated. Games would have been played in the dark or event would have seriously run over time. (Poturgal 2003 all over again).Hopefully these points will be sorted out for next year.

It felt like a hyped up M25 tournament but with more trade stands. Although I felt that the trade stands, not all but most where a let down from last year.

Not what you expect from the campaign crew hope next year will be better.

Out of 10 i would give it a 3.

CC 2k4 Rocked big time!

Sod Crystal Palace, this place was accessible, all the fields were easy to get to and around, all the fields were on LUSH GRASS! (no more burning your Trousers and Jerseys out on astroturf!), there was even a couple of corner shops within 5mins walking distance!

I mean ffs - do you not want to watch the best teams in the world, battling it out to the death on your doorstep?

Anyone who was there on Thursday can put their hand up and say - I was there when the Russians beat some of the Best NXL players!

Stop the hate already - a little constructive criticism is good and healthy, but you guys seem intent on living in the past!

Much love to all there:D
