At 12:23 on the 5th July 2010, we launched the first Call To Duty.
What happened in the following few crazy days is now a matter of record and paintball history. Tickets sold at a rate of one every 12 seconds for over half an hour until the servers crashed and the player cap was smashed. We're told it was the fastest ever selling paintball event in the world.
At the time, many doubted that it would be possible to run an urban paintball event on this scale.
All we said at the time was……trust us.
Many of those who attended the subsequent game described the event as the best paintballing experience of their lives. Not bad for a 35 quid game!
If you take the first Call to Duty and put it on steroids, then you’ll get an idea as to what to expect next:
Al Murray and Tim Barnett present
Call To Duty II
This will be a weekend long event over the 5th and 6th March 2011 at Sennybridge Training Area.
Sennybridge is the 3rd largest military training area in the UK and located within the Brecon Beacons National Park. It is also the primary training area for 22 SAS. The Sennybridge FIBUA facilitiy is overlooked by the famous Pen Y Fan mountain which forms part of the SAS selection route - the infamous Fan Dance!
Travelling time from London and Manchester is 3.5 hours. South West of England and Birmingham is 2.5 hours. By car 6 hours from Glasgow, but Cardiff airport is less than 1 hour away and shuttles will be made available for those wishing to fly in.
Tickets for this event are limited to just 200. It’ll be on a first come first served basis. Tickets will go on sale at 1900hrs precisely on Thursday 14th October 2010 and will cost £50.
The format for the event will be the same as Call To Duty 1. Players will be broken down into the same 6 factions, each with their own uniform which will be the same as CtD1. Each faction will be provided with their own forum to communicate.
When purchasing your ticket, ensure that you choose the correct faction.
This will be a two day event. Players are welcome to arrive anytime from Saturday morning onwards. We will be running an outrageously intense game all day Saturday throughout the complex which players will be able to join as they arrive. Ram Training will also be offering a brand new CQB training package on the Saturday for just £15.
As well as the game running all day Saturday, we will also have the Ram Training CQMS cook house. Decent food and beer at down to earth prices. Overnight accommodation will be free of charge, you'll need to bring a roll mat and sleeping bag.
We’ll also have a big party on the Saturday night. We’ll have our 4 plasma screens running Call To Duty on PS3's and we’ll be running a formal Call To Duty competition where paintball teams will submit a team of 2 people with the best pair winning some decent prizes. We’ll have a bar onsite with beer served at regular prices.
It maybe possible for us to run an Urban night game – but we are awaiting confirmation. If we can – we will, and we’ll invest heavily in illumination pyrotechnics if that is the case. Night vision is advised.
Air will be supplied by HPAC.
There will be abseiling into game zones.
There will be in game audio.
There will be pyro.
There will be dozens of burning tanks and APC’s.
There will be sewer and tunnel systems running under the town and into the buildings.
There will be overhead cameras and night vision carmeras covering every inch of the town.
This will be a first game in the world with this level of in game audio effects with the entire town rigged to a giant PA with ground shaking capability. The audio will be able to physically shake the ground and buildings with simulated explosions over and above the pyro that we have planned.
It will be clear paint and site paint only at £30 a box of 2000. We will be re-engineering a different spec ball to increase the accuracy over range for this event.
Over the past few months, we’ve recce’d dozens of venues. We’ve been offered use of all MOD FIBUA facilities including Copehill Down and Lydd. After visiting each venue, we had absolutely no doubt that Sennybridge was the best for what we want. Whilst some of the other venues had some great features and some were larger, none ticked all the boxes for a great game like Sennybridge did. For us, it’s not about player numbers or the size of the site, it’s about putting on the best game at the best locations. We’ll cap the numbers at 200 because we think that’ll be the best number for this game and we’ll run it at Sennybridge because as players ourselves we believe that it’s the best venue.
People doubted us when we launched Call To Duty 1.
When player numbers increased, they doubted us again. There are too many players they said. The game will be a paint fest they said. It’ll descend into chaos they said.
All we said was……….trust us.
Al Murray: "I've been playing paintball for over 20 years. I've played in different countries, I've played at urban sites and whilst I've never actually bought the T-shirt......I've seen most that there is to see. But......I can honestly say that what we have lined up for Call To Duty II is extraordinary. Most people know that I'm not prone to flowerly language, but I honestly think that what we have here is something that nothing in the world can come close to. I have never seen anything like this in my life - and I don't make statements like that lightly"
Tim Barnett: "I remember someone saying before the first Call To Duty that an event could never live up to the expectation that that event had generated. The same person posted up after the game to say that it was the best paintball he had ever experienced. I'm seldom lost for words, but Call To Duty II and what we have planned literally leaves me speechless at times. I was very proud of the first Call To Duty and the reaction it received, but I feel almost embarrassed about that event when I think about what we have in store for those lucky enough to get a ticket for Call To Duty II. There is no doubt in my mind that it'll be a landmark event for UK paintball - I just wish everyone could be there."
Between us we have played at, and organised, as many paintball events as anyone else in the British Isles. We feel confident that we have never seen an event like Call To Duty II anywhere in the world. It’ll be a game of long lasting significance………………trust us.
Tim and Al.
6 x 33 tickets will go on sale at 1900hrs on Thursday 14th October 2010 via the Corporate-Killers website. It’ll be strictly first come first served. When purchasing your ticket please ensure that you choose the correct faction. Please also insert into the comments box how many boxes of paint you wish to purchase for the event. Tickets that fail to record their paint requirement maybe considered void.
For Call To Duty 1 – over 150 tickets sold in half an hour. Therefore, if you intend on coming to this event, you are advised to secure your ticket immediately after 1900hrs.
Please note. All MOD facilities are subject to priority booking based on the operation requirements of the British Army. This is the case for all paintball operators including the Warped NvS event and any other event that is using MOD property. In the unlikely event of the event being postponed, tickets will automatically be valid for the new date. No automatic refunds will be issued based on a change of date that is beyond our control.
Loads more pics to come in the coming months.
