im quite new to paintballing, mainly playing recball and ive heard good things about the sp1 and was looking to buy one as my first marker, but to my understanding smartparts is going under.

so in short as a first time paintball gun would buying this be a short sighted purchase?
if so, any advice where id be better spending my money?

I think you will find smart parts has gone under.

I was in the same position looking at getting a luxe but decided against it due to the problem of getting spares with the manufacturer going bust.

are you going to run a marker on air or co2 is the 1st question you should ask yourself as this choice greatly affects your choice of markers

gassy is correct although the lux is by far a different beast of a marker and way more exclusive so less of them on the market ....for the £90 -£110 you will pay for a sp1 the spares are easy enough to come buy and they are relatively easy to fix having repaired them before ..

are you a member of ukscenario.com all sorts of discussions on these types of marker

for a scenario/ rec ball marker they will do the job at a very cheap price

There's not much on an SP1 to break in my opinion. SP Europe is in safe hands so getting it serviced or the random spare part shouldn't be an issue. Obviously their supply of spares will run out at some point or another, but that's true for any marker..

I recently bought a shocker, other than o-rings there isn't much to break on it :)
In a worst case scenario the solenoid or board fries. The first are readily available as they're used in other applications and the latter will be available for quite some time aswell due to aftermarket manufacterers with overstock ;)
