Helpful hints or tips for new players to go here, start with telling people what you need or don't need.

I'll begin.

You don't NEED the latest gen Rotor or Prophecy. Halos and reloaders are superb loaders, robust and more than capable of feeding your marker and you can pick them up second hand for relative peanuts.

:D

Try out an old cheap (ie sub £100) marker before splurging on the latest Dyeclipspire soopa shoota. You might be very pleasantly surprised what you can pick up and how well it will perform and you won't be worried about scratching it ;)

Buy army surplus to begin with, even if you want to play tournament. Again, you don't need the latest gear to run around a field getting shot at.

It works for the army so ignore the Rambo jibes and shoot them in the face. :D

Great thread guys, all useful tips for someone like myself just getting into the sport.

on the second hand masks note...second hand markers too! As long as they are well maintained why not buy second hand to begin with.

Try before you buy also, playing with an invert mini at the last walk on has been highly influential! I know what I'll be buying first when the pay packet allows.

Thanks for all the tips all and keep them coming!

The added bonus to a lot of second hand markers is that they have had their kinks ironed out. Only real issues I had were with markers brand new out of the box :)

Don't buy cheap sh*t paint. Waste of money, one good ball in five if you're lucky. Spend an extra fiver and enjoy the straight shooting non smashing loveliness.

You do not need a paintball specific rucksack or gearbag. They are overpriced in most cases. Check eBay or TKMAXX for perfect cheap alternatives.

Don't waste hundreds of balls at the chrono. Five is fine, adjust if necessary, another five. Save it for training and shooting fools.

Know how your marker works and how to fix it. Most are very easy with a bit of care and patience.

Get a decent mask, cheap masks will need to be upgraded quickly.

Spend £40-£60 on a good 2nd hand mask which will only need a new lens once a year to stay in top condition.
quite right ive had a pair of events 07 and there lasting forever
