got home form work today to find that bt had at last got the connection sorted out.

GODDDDDDDDD its quick. just spent the last hour watching warpig streaming videos.

must be like power steering on a car though, if you have to go back to not having it then u r not happy

apart from warpig then where are some good high quality downloads ?

the only problem with that is they use 50-1 contentions...so if everyones on it u may well get 1kb downloads (quater f the speed of 56k)

If its BT broadband, it uses 3-1

It means theres 3 people using the one, how can i put this....'port'

well....1 -1 contention means u would have a whole 512kbit modem to your self....as in proper broadband speed....but 50-1 means u share it with 49 other people so if everyone is on you will al be getting 1kb a second speed....but not everyone will always be on....but sometimes it will go slow.....ill laugh at all of you with your broadband when everyones on and my isdn is going 8 times the speed of yours

had isdn at my last house and didn't think it was up to much at all. handy for the second line and just a bit quicker.

it is bt so hopefully wont be too bad

its 50-1 actually its 1300 people sharing a 12.5 MBIT line to their respective ISP's whoever told you its 3-1 is talking out of their arse and hasn't got a clue waht they're talking about!

That would be my uncle, who works for BT fitting DSL and upgrading exchanges.

Doesn't mean he knows the specs, though. I've heard a load of Engineers talking out of their arses, and believing it to be true. One guy (a very senior engineer at Compaq insists that TCP/IP would work even if all of the ethernet cards in a network had the same MAC addresses)
