If a bottle fails its test, do the company testing it usually destroy the bottle? Or do they send it back saying that it has failed?

I think you can ask for it back but have to cover postage. From what I remember they drill a hole in the bottle so it cannot be used.

So sawing it in half then throwing it away, then not sending it back is not something that the tester should do.

I've seen them cut bottles in half, that's quite common, but they should contact you and return the bottle. There is a body that governs the testers, i think it's called IDEST.

I spoke to another dive centre today regarding failed bottles, and they are supposed to destroy the bottle, but the bottle is still your property, and should be returned to you. I would go back to them and insist that they return the bottle, as it is yours regardless of its condition.
