my reg was unscrewing from the bottle when there was no pressure left, so a teammate used PTFE to seal the threads, but then it still unscrewed when the pressure was 0. Does it have to be loctited? I'd prefer not to loctite :(
I heard the law / rules are different now but dont know exactly what, info would be greatly appreciated.

Ive never had that problem.
Of all the bottles ive ever owned, ive never used loctite on the threads.
when shooting until your marker starts to drop off shots(running out of air) theres still at least 200psi in the bottle, i would have thought thats enough pressure to keep the bottle from unscewing by itself.
Only problem ive had when bottle is at a low pressure of around 200 psi, is when i screw the bottle off the marker, i have to make sure im not unscrewing the bottle from the actual reg itself.

New bottles all seem to come with the reg loctited to the bottle now, which is a right pain for those of us who have to fly with them.

I have never loctited my reg in, and I don't believe they need to be, but the reg should be screwed into the bottle to the correct torque. I screw the reg in as hard as I can without additional tools, which is not enough torque by the book, but I've never had a system with any air in it try to unscrew itself. Mind you, I always unscrew any tank from the ASA by holding the reg, not the bottle.

It sounds like the threads on the bottle and the reg don't quite match. one or the other has probably been machine with the thread spacing slightly too large.

When the bottles got pressure inside then its trying to push the reg out of the top of the bottle and so the threads are forced together making it a tight fit. When there is no pressure the threads go back to being slightly loose and it unscrews.

You might find swapping regs between bottles does the trick, if not it should show if its the bottle or the reg with a slightly off threading.

First off, get rid of the ptfe tape, this has to be the most stupid advice i've ever heard regarding hpa air systems.
The reg must be fitted to the bottle and tightened to a specific torque by a qualified/trained person.

Andy i can see the way your thinking, but i feel that your explanation is a bit misleading.
