There has been some debate on this and other forums with regards to bottle test dates. The info supplied to the UKPSF several years ago was supplied by the HSE and the bottle manufacturers. This has been updated regularly by the manufacturers. We have always been told that full and half wrap bottles needed testing after three years.

The bottle manufacturers have been pushing the HSE to change to five years inline with Aluminium and steel cylinders.

It has been changed (for half wrap) and it was the UKPSF who informed the manufacturers. Intresting testing houses ( exception H-pac) must not be aware of this as they have been testing bottles that in theory did not need testing!!!

So here is the current situation

UKPSF information sheet 2

The fastest growth area in paintball at the present time is the conversion of markers from CO2 to compressed air. With this in mind the UKPSF would like to bring to player’s and site owners attention the need to have cylinders tested at approved intervals. Testing must be carried out on all full fibre wrap after three years and half fibre wrap bottles after five years from the date of manufacture. Steel and Aluminium bottles must also be tested five years from the manufactured date.

This includes ALL cylinders over 0.5l capacity and applies to any compressed gas Cylinders under 0.5l capacity must be visually inspected for corrosion, damage or deformation of shape prior to filling.

The date of retest is from the date of manufacture, which will be etched into the cylinder in the case of steel or aluminium or on a label that is laminated into the fibre wrap on the cylinder, not from the date you purchased the cylinder.

The testing house can test the following cylinders: - HSE-AL-FWI (full wrap composite) HSE-AL-HWI (half wrap composite) BS 5043 Part 3 (Aluminium) and BS 5043 part 4 (Steel). All these bottles must be subjected to a hydraulic pressure test to BS 5430 Part 3 (1990).

If an accident should occur using an out of date bottle it could invalidate your site insurance policy so check you cylinders today.

If you need your cylinder testing contact either Quantum products (01908 669468) or Paintball Planet (0161 872 5572) OR H-pac (01902 494 988) Testing usually takes about two to three weeks.

Remember
THREE YEARS FOR FULL FIBRE WRAPPED BOTTLES
FIVE YEARS FOR HALF FIBRE WRAPPED BOTTLES
FIVE YEARS FOR ALUMINIUM OR STEEL BOTTLES
This applies to ALL cylinders with a capacity of 0.5L or above

I hope this help - Until the new CE specs appear in two months

ok, confusion

when i was at the m25 league, i though my bottle was about to run out as it was MANUFACTURED in2000 and i thought it had a 3 year test, the guy at HPAC said it had a 5 year test because it said FW on it, so i believe him as hes like a proper air smith.....anyone care to shed some light?

FW I would assume means

Full Wrap, therefore 3 years. Are you sure it was someone FROM HPAC, and not just stood about waiting for one of them to turn up?? (Some ppl sounds as if they know what they are talking about, easy to get sucked in. I know, I am a pro bull****ter) ;)

"but....im not bothered as my air bottle is allowed according to them, so as long as i use hpac im safe"

Bit of a dodgy statement to make cockersrule??!! Just because someone says something is okay doesn't automatically make it so?? No way would I be taking someones word as gospel like that, not when yopu consider the consequences of not having a tested and safe bottle...

I would be double checking it if I were you, not carrying on using it mate... last thing the sport needs is a death caused by using untested gear... damn sure that would hit the headlines in a shot.... not what we want really.

cockersrule: I thought your bottle was a flat-bottomed 3000psi bottle? If so, it's HW, surely. I thought all FW bottles were round-bottomed.

Oh, and one other thing, my bottle is labelled HSE-AL-FW2 (which, on researching, turns out to be a subtly different specification to HSE-AL-FW1.) In the US, I believe this bottle has been granted a 5-year test cycle, but I assume in the UK it is still 3-year, just like HSE-AL-FW1?
