Bolt Polishing / Modding

Hi, I was speaking to some people (at bricket wood I think) recently and remember one of them saying they knew someone who was doing machining work on metal bolts, but the problem is I cant remember who it was.

The problem I have is I need a bad score mark removed from the bolt surface and would also like for the bolt to be rebalanced and polished while this is being done.

Any help would be appreciated as I need to use the marker soon.

Cheers
Andy.

Tom Allen seems to be the most technical and one of the most hands on members of this here board.

Don't tell him that though . . .

I was going to look into the results of polishing a bolt up on a wax bob. If you don't have any luck tracking down that specific individual then try finding somewhere that uses polishing equipment.

To be honest if your bolt is that badly damaged that you need to machine then the best option is to get a new bolt.

If you only have minor scratches and marks then one of the best things for polishing bolts if brasso wadding. You can but it in a tin (I think I got my last tin from wilkinsons) and it is like cotton wool soaked in brasso.

It does take a long time if you want to remove rust and scratches but I usually sit infront of the TV and just keep loghtly polishing. It is great for polishing up old bolts and internals and I've cleaned up rusted pump bolts and hammers with it.

Andy,

If your bolt is scored it needs replacing, this can be done by most if not all Dye tech centres or speak to Ash @ Dye ( or on Sunday @ NSPL ).

Bolt polishing has been done via Barry who works at Bricket Wood for a couple of the guys PMR's with good effect.

Barry will also be at NSPL on Sunday I believe so hit him up there.

Laters :)

the bloke you want see is Barry one of the blokes that helps out at bw he polished the blots for the boys in our team and now we get better air efficiency and consistency.

When he did mine he got it on a micrometer and he said that the bolt was oval where it has been anode but now my gat is running sweet!!! Before I was using a .7 bottle and running out of gas before I used the 5 pots and hoper I normally take out but now I’m using the whole lot and I still have 500psi and I can crank the velocity up a bit more to the limit as well because of the better consistency.

So basically go see Barry and hell sort you out
