Okay guys, help me understand here....

Why do some rec-ballers choose to dress their guns up as M16's and MP5's etc?

Why do they attach laser sights, telescopic lenses, sight rails, stocks et al for no other purpose than making the gun big, awkward, heavy, and making them look like a gun-fetishist?

Why at scenario games do some people dress up like the SS? Camo I can understand - but dressing up like fascists???

Why did I see numerous players with combat knives strapped down their legs?

I don't have a problem with people wearing camo in the woods a la another thread. Sometimes though you've gotta wonder if people are going a bit too far.

This is PAINTBALL. Don't flame... I'm just interested in where you guys are coming from.

I must admit I have converted my A-5 into an MP5 look alike.

Now I must put up my hands and say that I love scenario game / big games and having a marker that looks like the real thing (Apart from the drop forward and bottle attached :) ), makes the games more enjoyable.

I'm not a gun freak, buy gun magazines or slap boot polish under my eyes and scream as I run towards a bunker.

I think the combat knife's are way OTT and shouldn't be allowed on a field (Insurance people would have a right fit)

So it's even a mystery to me as well, but I love it :)

The Geese are some of those people that dress up their markers with the kit you have said. There are various reasons for doing this. The main one being we play scenario paintball not tourney as a team and the look helps with the game we play. Also when you spend 8 hours(which is the normal game time) in the woods a combat sling and stock help ease the weight of the marker.Sights help with spotting ambushes...we play the odd night game,so the torches and laser also have a use.

I'm a bit confused about your SS comment.....have to say I haven't seen anyone dressed as such. And as for knives I have NEVER seen anyone with one strapped to their leg..they certainly would be asked to leave one of our games. You say you have seen "numerous" players with this...you do know what a squeegy looks like don't you?

I think that its just that they like to take the scenario scene a bit more seriously than others. I have given some thought to dressing my A-5 up, some of the mods look great, like the M249, gosh thats nice. But i didn't for three reasons.
Its expensive, both to get the stuff, and also because it usually has to ship from the US.
It doesn't serve a purpose.
My A-5 already gets the p*ss taken at my local site as it is, simply for being a Tippmann, so i didn't want to get any more jip.
But anyway, i think its just because they take the scenario a bit more seriously. And about the SS, i've seen pics from scenario games with people dressed as pilots, for Search and Rescue scenario games. People may dress up as the SS as, well, to have a WWII scenario game. They may not see the SS as in the right, just one of the sides.

Mako, can I just ask where you are from?

If you are from North America then some of your comments are valid, but many replies are looking at this from a UK point of view, where things are different.

In America, big games are far more commonplace and a lot of them revolve around 'real war' situations, where dressing up as the SS, rightly or wrongly puts you in character. In fact there has just been a very large game commerating D-Day, and for those that know their history, the SS were some of the units involved in the German counter attack. To my knowledge there haven't been any 'real war' games played in this country so I would suggest the pictures you have seen come from America.

Again, carrying a knife onto the field, while completly wrong, could be part of your characters uniform and therefore valid, but still wrong, IMO.

Going back to dressing your marker up, I agree with everything my Captain said (mind you its a brave man that disagress :D )

Carrying a marker through thick bushes is awkward and tiring. Being able to let a sling take the weight helps. Also, adding bits to your marker facilitates the use of the sling by having hard points to attach it too. I forgot to use my sling this weekend and my neck and shoulders were killing me Monday (wimp  ) Having a sling also free's up your hands to throw smoke bombs and thunder flashes :)D ) which the Geese do in spades.

And Skarra, stand tall, you have a Tippmann, you are a God amongst men! :D

They are just scared of the A5 m8 cos they know when their cockers break down you are still going after you drove over it with a truck!

The A5 things look really cool tho, i might even consider one as a scenario gun one day.

What the others have said about the scenario is true, people in nazi clothing at these events are not nazis, just providing an enemy to an enjoyable day. Comabt knives are way to far tho, they should be kept well away from the balling field.

And yes i love rec ball and scenario games.

Its a shame that all those other people out there who don't own Tippmanns can't see that.

This is true. The biggest reason for me not getting a different marker is the fact that it wouldn't have the Cyclone feed syetem. One of my friends has an Exo X Autococker, and has major problems with it. Another has a 2003 Cocker, and both consistantly chop balls numerous times a day. My A-5 has never broke a single ball. They don't see and respect that, its a big shame.

well for my two penneth i own all types of marker and kit, from a bright blue one of a kind cocker to a mutant a5 with mismatched scenario add ons and a torch and stuff, from red rase trousers to full black and cammo military kit

they come out at different time for different reasons and games

as for knives i won't even keep a small one in my tool kit, i started playing in the 80's when it really was full of idiot's (yuppies mostly cos it was soo expensive) and people were carring kives and catapuults and stuff like that, and belive me, brothers and sisters, accidents do happen

*hides lock knife in tool box*
i carry a knife in my tool box so i can trim stuff like macroline etcbut it never goes on the feild and imo anyone who carries one on a feild is a bloody idiot who deserves whatever accidents and jail terms befall them, just a pity if anyinnocent recballers get involved if it does.

as for the whole tippy thing. i used to think they are ugle lil plastic looking manky things *strokes angel lovingly* but then my girl got a RT triggered tippmann in araffle and i had a go..

omg

it may look like a mp5 wannabe toy but they are more fun than a room full of tripping monkeys :D
