As a result of a completely unexpected environmental issue Warped have been forced to move the Big Game site.

A pair of nesting BUZZARDS have moved into the intended Forestry Commission game site and we are forced under Wildlife Protection laws to leave a 400m exclusion zone around the nest in all directions – this absolutely kills the game as you can see in Map 1.

You are probably aware that we have been working hand in hand with the Forestry Commission to stage the game and we had a site meeting with them and other environmentalists on Tuesday.

Jason Maclean, District Forester for the Environment issued the following statement in an open letter the same day:

"To confirm the agreed outcomes of todays meeting. We agree that due to the birds of prey nesting on the site and the exclusion zones required to protect them, the site is no longer viable for this particular event. This is because the exclusion zone would not only limit the amount of land available for use but, also because the entrance track to the site falls within the zone. We agree that you will relocate the event to an alternative Forestry Commission site and that we will provide assistance. I would like to thank Warped Paintball for the positive way in which you have worked with us to find a solution to this problem. I would also like to assure everyone that this unforeseen issue is not only beyond our control, but also a rarity"

Anyway, whilst this is a blow to us logistically (all of the game props are now being moved), it does not affect the game as we have reverted to a previous game site which we felt was unsuitable due to lack of parking and camping facilities – however with the help of Forestry Commission manpower and plant we have solved these problems and have already started work on Wednesday preparing the site to receive the game props... we aint gonna let a couple of birds stop us now guys!!!!

The new site is just as accessible to anyone traveling, being only 20 mins drive from the other site. The game is now located just outside PENKRIDGE and is another virgin (to paintball!!) Forestry Commission site. If you have a hotel booked and cant change it don't worry as you will be able to drive to Penkridge on Sunday morning from wherever you are booked. If you need alternative accommodation closer to the new venue please get in touch - 01902 455455

The game scenario remains based on the FIREBASE theme. A game map and a scenario outline are available at www.warpedsports.com This set-back will impact dispatch of sending the game booklet (as its being re-written right now!!). It will leave us from the middle of next week so everyone who has paid up will have the Game Booklet and Game Ticket one week before the game.

We would like to thank you in advance for your understanding in this issue. We feel this episode further demonstrates to the greater community that the paintball industry, and paintball players, regard working within environmental and wildlife guidelines as an integral part of our sport.

BIG GAME 2k5

North V South

FIREBASE ALPHA

The Event

The usual weekend of 30 th April 1st May sees THE BIG GAME return to its North V South roots! A brand new scenario will be played out on a large swathe of CANNOCK CHASE in the midlands.

The Venue

The venue is near Hednesford and is easily accessible from J11 of the M6 making it central and easy to find. The specific area we will play is perfect for the Firebase scenario we have developed. A huge wooded area with hills, valleys, streams, bogs, with a large clear-felled area in the centre, absolutely reminiscent of US style firebase clearances in Vietnam.

The Game

For the first time we have the opportunity to build a single purpose, specific game scenario rather than using existing installations on an established site! The set-up time will be extensive but the ability to strategically place every object and installation gives us the opportunity to add a whole new dimension to the Big Gaming experience.

FIREBASE ALPHA is a real-time, real area size, 7 hour epic battle between two armies who have manoeuvred to set up Field Camps at the North and South edges of the firebase.

The generals who will lead the forces are HATTS for the North team DANGEROUS BRIAN for the South team.

Teams will be given pre-specified missions which they must attempt to complete, real-time constantly changing strategic and tactical conditions (including the curve-balls the Game Control Staff have up there sleeves) will all add up to a very intense and exciting game! There will be many opportunities for mass attacks, smaller insurgencies, and to receive special ops for your own specific “squad” – just give us a squad name and numbers when you book and we will ensure that your General is fully informed of your wishes and strength via pre-game briefings and reports.

As with previous Big Games a game booklet will be provided with your game ticket and this will explain all rules and information required to play the game.

Game tickets cost £45 and this is fully inclusive of air/co2. Parking and/or camping are available free from Saturday morning, and there will be a free players party, indoor with bar and live music on Saturday night.

Paint will be available on-site from at least 2 brands at £25 per case – Severe and Victory/V-comp confirmed so far, other paint vendors please get in touch if you wish to trade. Deposits of £10 are required to secure your place and you can book till 9pm any day on 01902 455455.

Ok, gutted but

Nice one for the work done by Warped on this, can do no harm to the image of a few hundred nutters running around the woods shooting at each other.

Hmmm

Maybe the image needs a TAD more work then. :)

Sorry to hear of the complications but still looking forward to this immensely,.....
