Beware DOT Specification Tanks

Hi all,

I just wanted to make something very clear, especially for the new guys among us, who are getting into the sport.
This comes as one of my bottles is due to be re-tested, but I was new when this one was brought, and thus didnt read the small print.

Carbon Fibre tanks in the UK are tested to a different specification to those of the USA for example. The three warning letters to look out for are DOT .. This will be proceeded by a set of numbers.. but if you do see a tank for sale either on the forums or at a trade Expo with ONLY a DOT specification number it is not advisable to buy a tank that is manufactured to DOT specification.

HSE or Pi (or Pie spec) are absolutely fine.
with a DOT spec tank, you WILL NOT be able to use it legally in Tournaments or events, doing so will void any insurance you may have and is extremely risky in terms of your own personal safety.

I now have a bricked Tank because of this, and I dont want anyone else taking the same risk or making the same mistake I did 5 years ago.

Regards

There are some tanks, however, that are legal in both the USA/Canada (DOT specification) and in Europe (Pi specification), although Pure Energy is the only company that I know makes such and air tank (and it's a specific one, not their regular/cross fire tanks).

Ha bloody hell, thats a blessing in disguise, unfortunately im not at home at the moment, in two weeks I will be, so I'll give you a shout when I get back.

Gassy,
I got it from the states where I got my entire starter setup, but I was instantly halted before using it on a field, so since then, ive been filling it from my own dive tank for marker testing and tweaking and using a (legal) 48cu one for games. I only just recently found that it needed testing. but remembering that it was no good to me, so I wanted to make others aware of it.

Good thread, this is a known issue, BUT it is important for everyone to be reminded, so thanks.
