I'm curious about how much porting is too much for a Matrix marker? Especially as I'll prolly be getting a freak and already have an AA front which has quite a bit of porting down its length, would I be better off with a freak front or something different like a Boomstick.

Help me out guys (& gals), I don't wanna blow £90 on a new barrel to find its gonna suck. :)

I've got a 12" AA Freak on mine. It's actually 1" shorted than the 12" stock matrix barrel and the teardrop Freak. Go figure. The porting on the AA starts about an inch further back than the porting on the standard but I've not seen any noticable difference in efficiency - Is that what you're wondering about?

Boomsticks have more porting than the barrel that came with my Matrix LCD.

Quite a few people are using longer barrels and taping up the holes to try to squeeze more shot sout of a tank but you end up with someting that sounds a fair bit louder than normal.

on/off topic,

Regarding taping up porting holes, I did that on my marker at a tourney, the balls developed a very 'interesting' flight path, can you say wing??

lol

Remember that the ported section of an AA or a freak (and a lot of 2-piece barrels) is a larger diameter than the back (it's around.700, IIRC). If the ball was still being accelerated in that section, the accuracy would be crappy with or without porting.

Thx for the tips guys. I'll check out the Javelin site in a minute. the Infinity barrels look nice but for the same (or cheaper) I'm tempted to look at the JT 2 piece or Rekka barrels.
