ehhhmmm yes,it will alter the bore size of your barrel at least,if not completley sh#g the flight path of your balls as well.depending on what barrel it is a big bore is going to be far more forgiving than a small bore;)

try pluging the holes with somthing ie bees wax,but make sure the outside is clean before painting ie wipe down with white spirt/acetone(nail varnish remover)
after painting put a barrel bung in and fire a couple of times to blow out the filler;)

acetone is good but if there is paint already on it will strip it. Panel wipe available from any good spray supply shop is better wont do any damage to barrel but will clean any crap off the barrel. you can also use a putty or plasticine type material to fill the holes just make sure that you dont come out too far as it will look strange once youve sprayed it.

key the barrel using a fairly smooth grade sand paper then undercoat. key again but use really fine sand paper then spray your top coat.

With it being aluminium you will need to etch prime it first (not cheep) you cannot use normal primer; the paint will just peel off.

Practicality of spaying a barrel …. Zero

Barrel ends up in the bin or sent in for anodising …. 100%

Im with you on this, Companies dont paint guns.. why? because paint doesn't stop on alluminium very well, it will chip away very easily - and as le pig said - if any gets through the porting you might as well bin the barrell.

If your that bothered... either have it re annoed' or what might be cheaper buy a new barrell in the colour desired

Bung matchsticks through any porting... and a light coat of oil down the barrel, will prevent anything from actually sticking to it of it gets in there.

Prime teh ouside (after keying) with Acryllic Primer, commonly sold as wood primer, as it doesnt have a skin...put your top coats on...good hard lacquer and a good bake on low in an oven with teh door open...sorted.
