Try wrapping them in a sock to keep them warm on a cold day,
In all honesty i have never noticed flat spots on mine, but then again they are a tad hairy and that really is my girlfriends department ;)

Sorry couldnt resist :D

Getting back to the original question & ignoring the threadjackers.....
Paint will get flat spots if it's stored without turning for any length of time. You need to turn the box it's stored in every couple of days, this also prevents the fill from settling on one side too badly. Very small flat spots shouldn't make too much difference to accuracy & it's rare to get a perfectly round ball.
Sometimes the paint will come from the manufacturers with significant flat spots already there; this is usually due to the paint being boxed too early & packed while still a bit soft.
