wont that make the tank stick way out the back of the gun, and not underneath?

How ever you choose to do it, you end up having what ever it is that you screw your tank into facing the opposite way that it normally would. Therefore when you screw your tank in, the pin valve is facing the back of the gun and the butt of the tank is facing the ame way that the barrel is facing.

Why would anyone ever want to do this? I've seen it, and I'll never understand it.

More like 10 on a blowback marker.

Sure, it would make it mroe compact, but then you don't have anything to sholder your marker on, there for you won't be able to shoot as tight a grouping. So youll have less accuracy.
