Back to the BadlandZ?

PSP's Chicago event in June appears headed for a return engagement at Renick's Badlandz fields in Lansing, IL. Is this a trip down memory lane for all those sentimental ballers who fondly remember the Chicago of old or is it a tacit surrender to the NPPL in the race to promote Pball to the masses?

Let's hear from some kidz who are gonna be there. What do you think? Do you care where the event is held?

While we're at how would y'all rate the job the two leagues are doing?
Course, that might not be a fair comparison cus maybe they have different goals?

Who wants to play Xball on hyperball fields? ;)

Badlands was always a good event. Rennick knows how to put on a tournament, not a "show", so I expect it to be a bit of a throwback event. Just like his ad says for the 'other' Chicago Open - no free water, no paved parking lots, no frills, just good fields and good judging.

Xball on the zipper field? That would be sick

We're going back to the Badlands/Chicago and (according to rumors) Pittsburgh this year. It's like deja vu all over again :D

Aaron,
Any event in Chicagoland area is a no-fly trip unless of course you are actually living at the Badlandz. If so, does Renick know or are you a squatter?

Whale,
I appreciate the effort to help fill up this lonely thread and next time I'm looking for a harmless, Vanilla answer I'll pm ya. :p

It is interesting to note that no one has an opinion (they are willing to express) about this what with all the hype about improving venues and delivering tourney ball to the masses.

Did someone mention an opinion?

Here's mine:

Renick lost ****loads of money last year and, like any good businessman, doesn't want to lose more this year - so he's going back home.

Will it affect tha players' experience? Probably not.

Will it affect the much-mooted, seldom seen 'spectators'? Find tha answer in tha rhetorical question...

How's that? If you don't like it then I have others...

I'll lend ma fellow 'Mercans a helpin' hand.

I think that bringing back the woods as an alternative market within the market is an idea whose time has come. If I had the capital I would jump on it.

Think what a profitable notion considering how much a woods tournament would cost compared to the super-arena, vinyl-blow-up, super-wind-resistant-netting, scoreboard-tower ones we are coming to take for granted (of course it does seem like only yesterday we were discussing cow-pastures)!

Border-tape, chain-saw, a couple of tents and off we go.

Miss the sushi outta them crawling lanes, goggle-flauge and camo-tape on my gun! Not to mention putting some trees between me and mine enemies:p And I don't care what you say, 10-man in the woods rocks!

Maybe improving the venues and delivering tourneyball to the masses is mostly expected from the NPPL
and PSP seems to be already a few steps behind :)

Uh. Steverino, I think you're thinking of the upcoming Chicago Open in August which ain't the PSP's Chi-town event in June. Same location but that's it.

As to the Chicago Open--consider it the first stop on the Senior's Tour. Reminds me of a Jethro Tull classic.

Chicago schmicago, it's all the same. A man can get things mixed up sometimes. The Chicago Open is what I was referring to and I think it sounds great.

And if I'm Aqualung you're Crosseyed Mary, or is it Locomotive Breath? Certainly not the Teacher ;)

How are both leagues doing?

The devil is in the details. The PSP is missing a lot of those details. Customer service is far superior in the NPPL. The Orlando Open was a big fat dissapointment for me. I'm sure I may have felt different if I were playing X-ball. Unfortunately I was playing 10 man. I felt that the reffing on the 10 man fields was less than desireable and the field layout was unimaginative. There weren't even any porta potties over on the 10 man side of the event.
Compared to an event held two years ago it would have been an A+. But the bar has been raised and the NPPL seem to be pushing it even higher. PSP seem to do what they have to so that they don't fall behind. NPPL venues aren't as flashy (barring HB) but they spend the extra money and time taking care of the customers. I'm not trying to be a complainer, just giving my opinion.
By the way Paul, good job in O town. All the practice is starting to pay off for you guys. But I still want my players back.:D See you in Tampa.
