Back PMR Bolt O-Ring

I was wondering what the o-ring at the very back of the bolt does? If it wasn't there would the pmr leak if I was to try and play or is it only there to hold the back cap onto the bolt?

Its the Number 3 o-ring at the back of the bolt housing

i have a pmr 09 and the bolt on that leaks unless u have all the o rings on so i think it probably leak without it but you can always try it
