Avatar HELP!!

I am trying to use a picture that is really nice and clear. Now it says you can use a picture 75 by 75 pixels or 15000 bytes which ever is smaller.

So the picture is 6000 bytes but is bigger than 75 by 75 but it says it is too big so i try to make it 75 by 75 and it looks as yo can see pants.

What do I do?

looking at the pic it seems to have a lot of empty space on the right so you might wanna crop it before you resise the avatar(or is that a side effect of resizing?)
