I've been asking around quite a bit about the combination of Co2 and an Automag with mixed results. Basically, there is nowhere around here to get HPA or else I would, but I can't resist the Automag. So my question is, is it total folly to run an Automag on Co2 or will it work ok with a remote and exp. chamber? (note also I plan to be using it in temps no lower than 50 degrees fahrenheit) Will a fast ROF still "freeze it up" or will it be able to handle it?

Thanks for the input in advance.

No its not folly, but its fairly inpractical. What I used to use was
an inline reg mounted on the bottom of the gripframe (palmer female stabalizer is an excelent reg) out of that I ran 2 feet of braided hose wraped in a coil and into the gun. Or you could go from the reg to the biggest expansion chamber you csn find and then into the gun. If you go with the hose option, I would also attatch a quick disconnect to the 90 going into the gun body, otherwise you will waste alot of Co2 gassing and degassing the
gun.

Searching for the pro-tour....:S
I ran CO2 on my mag for a while, with reasonable success.

I'd suggest either a huge expansion tank, like an ACI 6 stage, or a stable front reg. like the AA Vigilante. Both of these setups ran pretty well.

The biggest advice I can give is to have three or so CO2 tanks to make sure you always have a warm tank, otherwise you won't get enough pressure or you'll just freeze solid, very messy with a mag!!

Last point, if you run warm CO2 into a cold gun you can still get freezing problems as the CO2 condenses when it reaches the valve, and forms as liquid right in the valve, nasty!!!

Hope this helps!

Had a remote with a mini expansion chamber which worked fine for me - very consistent too on the chrony.

After a lot (and I mean a lot!) of rapid firing the expansion chamber started to ice, so it might be an idea to wrap something warm around it - like those heat pads with the iron filings in them (or has been suggested earlier, swap out spare CO2 tanks).

Good thing is, when HPA does get to where you're at, your automag can (a) switch easily to a cheap pre-set tank and (b) will work even better.

i run my mag at the mo on co2, its got a front expansion bottle (6 stage would be better), and its ok. obviously you will need to use an anti siphon tube, and go to whatever means to stop liquid co2 getting to the gun (as in the other posts), which will cause havoc and many hours of tinkering and replacing of o-rings etc.
