Did you recently receive an attachment in your e-mail which doesn't "do" anything when you started it? If so, it could be a backdoor program where you unknowingly let someone access your desktop and do anything he wants with your PC. Anything, like starting/stopping programs, deleting stuff, and even shut down or reboot your PC.

Get a decent virus killer at norton.com or mcaffee.com.

save stuff to a cd or high-density disc and reformat the hard-drive.

Or go through you entire hard-drive sweepiing it for anything that should not be there.
If it is a virus or summat else then it may be disguised as something else.

It does sound like a Virus but if you've done a sweep then I assume not.. Although past experience has shown me that Mcafee is a bit crap and missed things that other checkers pick up. Norton or Sophos seems to be more reliable.

Failing that.. Like ICES said.. looks like it could be time for a re-install..

Definatley sounds like a trojun/virus of some kind, either that or someone in your house is playing games with you. ;)

Try enabling "Heuristic" (spelling??/) scanning if it's not already turned on. Heuristic scanning takes a LOT longer but basically looks for "new" viruses that are not in existing virus definitions.

I wouldn't leave it enabled all the time mind you cos it can slow your pc down quite a lot, turn it off once you've done the scan......

Happy hunting..

Better Things 2 Do!
Couple of things you can try

try using a different virus scanner - not to impressed with mcfee or norton because some viruses can bypass them.

AVG from grisoft is pretty good and free + they update quite regularly

http://www.grisoft.com if possible the best thing to do to make sure its not a virus is install it on a friends machine and make a boot disk which will check your system before anything starts running and hiding itself.

another handy program is ad-aware from lavasoft also free get it here http://www.lavasoftusa.com/ this program basically scans your system for spyware which can slow your system down aswell (Alexia is particularly bad for that).

Maybe this is of some use?

You could try using 'the cleaner' to check for torjans.
One thing you should probably keep in mind is that some virii write themselves to the boot sector and other strange places and may not be destroyed by a format.
If you're still stuck why not post your problem on a newsgroup about virii, the other members may be able to help more than us mere paintballers!!!

thx for all the help huys i seen to have sorted it now.

i did a system restore to a week ago.

seems that when i uninstalled a cd writing program it did sumthing to frontpage ( i dunno, seems odd )

meant frontpage would keep trying to install summin while i was on the net

very strange, ill have to look into it.

pretty sure wasnt a virus now or hacker as woukld still do it with a firewall on max setting
