Guys,

I've got to ask is this really the right approach:confused: I read the announcment on the front page this morning that Robbo is trying to develop a Dynasty style team. Obvioulsy if he can pull it off the UK stands a great chance of winning something. My really question is there enough time  Dynasty didn't get where they got over night. The young players were in the best location in the world, playing against powerhouse pro teams every weekend.

No disrespect to any of the players who have been selected, your all great players, and many steps above myself in terms of ability. However does the team have long enough to develop to a standard whereby they can beat the US, etc. I have alot of respect for all the people involved in this project and I think they are heading in the right direction if the competition wasn't for a couple of years. At least with the likes of Shockwave they have some idea of what is going to be needed.

Robbo/Beaker, give in go with the experience, they've been there and done it.

Laters,

Simon

but

they have already proved they can't cut it with the NPPL's finest, so your argument is redundant.

I think Robo is right - if he finds the balance between a few experienced heads to stay cool and call the shots and a handful of weasels, the Brits have got a chance. Albeit a slim one.

But they have come close, Shockwave won a Millennium event surrounded by some of the best in the world. I think the idea is a good one, just don't think they have enough time to get the squad up to the standard of the Americans, Russians, etc.

Just my opinion,

Simon

Simon, let me enlighten you about something, Shockwave have done **** in America, they can't even beat all the amateur teams they play over there let alone any pro teams, let alone the best of the pro teams.
Why the hell would I go over there to try and win the X-Ball with a proven bunch of losers ?
The only experience they have is of losing out, they ain't even made the semis for God's sake.
You wanna tell me why I should take them?
And of course the team hasn't got enough time to develop into a JT Dynasty but I have to do the best I can in the time available and try to emulate as many of the important aspects of Dynasty that I can, and that is exactly what I am doing !!!!!!!!
Natural players, young players, fit players and technically proficient players, these are the guys who are going to Pitts with me and not the Shockwave dinosaurs well all except Matty Schmidt of course !!!!!!

OK, well for what it's worth I gave you my opinion (before the masses tell me, yes I know it's worth jack sh*t, lol) I wish you and the team you decide on all the luck in the world. I just hope the UK can get some recognition for all the effort going into this.

Laters,

Simon

For what it's worth

Robo's selection process, right or wrong, is gutsy...going with Shockwave or Banzai would have been an easy option, and also one doomed to failure as neither team at present can cut it with the best.

Tha way Robo has approached it takes balls, cos if tha team bombs out everyone will say 'told ya so'...

I think he's getting it right - it's a different game, this X-Ball, and it needs technical, aggressive weasels.

And if we're talking about precedent - people always bang on about tha Olympics and getting pball in there...well how do countries select their Olympic athletic squads? By trials...

peace

Have a look at the results of recent Millenniums, let alone tourneys in the US. The current Brit teams just aren't getting the results at pro level any more even against the other European teams. There is no way we can get a decent result at Pittsburg with the present set-up, so why not try something different?

Another thing to consider is the format of X-Ball. You can't really take a traditional style team & win in the format, you need a team made up of people with the speed of a front player & the tactical awareness of a back, plus high fitness levels. Now the very best of these are scattered about in different teams in the UK, but it shouldn't take more than a few training sessions to get them working together as a team.

We've got the Football (soccer) World Cup about to start - how many people have said that SGE should have just picked players from the top 2 or 3 English football teams? No he's picked whoever is, in his opinion, the best for the job. This is what Robbo is doing, except he's not paid vast sums of money to do this and he's got a small team of unpaid assistants instead of loads of full time staff.

I completely agree with the selection policy and thinks it's thrown up a few players that maybe wouldn't have been thought of as they don't play for "name" pro teams.

Anyway, just which Shockwave line-up were you thinking of? A couple have left recently, another retired, rumours that others are banned at least from Milleniums.........
