Tips

Hiya

The biggest thing your notice is the volume of paint. But the biggest diffrence is that Tourney players shoot a lot straiter. so you can get in the action. Keep on your toes & get stuck in, the adraline will flow & that helps when you get shoot.

But the most inportant thing is to enjoy it.

I think there are 2 important things about marshalling tourneys:

1) Don't be afraid of gettin shot. If you think someone is hit then check em straight away no matter how much paint is been chucked at them, chances are that the other player will stop shootin when you're checkin them so you probably won't get shot.

2)Stick to your guns. If you make a decision to eliminate a player and they don't like it TOUGH. If you start changin your decisions then people will take advantage of you.

Try not to interfere with the flow of the game too much; if you can possibly check a player without calling them neutral try to. Neutral calls should be much, much rarer in tourney ball than for rental customers.
On the arena type fields you should be able to stand just outside the playing area except when you are going in to check a player, which keeps you out of the shooting lanes. There are 2 plus points to this - firstly you interfere less with play & secondly you get shgot an awful lot less!:D

Missed something out.

Hello

Yeah i missed something out.

The most important thing about tourney mashalling is team work. You must talk to the other marshall's on the field.

& one last point, if you think someone is going to B#*ch after the game, explain to the Field Ultimate what happend before the captain speeks to him.

It will make the Field Ultimate better prepared for any complaint.

Must remind myself not to shoot a marshal or ......... :D

Trust some one to lower the tone of a good and serious thread "stick to your guns" to coin a phrase I am sure you are all aware of the term and it's common usage as was not meant to be a pun :p

I would like to agree with every thing tiny and liz have said and also it might be worth your while listening in to the captins meeting to see what they are expecting too. I would also sugest you read up on the rules and be aware of any hand signals the marshals use.

As much as possible don't be "seen" to focus on a player as you will give his or her position away. Not so important once it's obvious every onre knows were all the players are. Like liz said get in there when you need to.

Enjoy ,I know I did at the self marshal event at nottingham:)

All of the above hints are good ones
The one that people missed is that as the "tourny" players tend to "believe" that they are right so don't say or even let it be known that you are new to the scene...ok you have done that via this forum but other than your team no-one else will know, show any weakness and you will get steamrolled.

Hey Sparklie since when was being an marshal a popularity contest? :D if you do your job (however it is seen) the same to everyone then you will get hated regardless 'cos all marshal's are blind/biased/inbred/slow/bottomfeeders :D :D :D
