Yep, you'll wear the detents on pretty much any marker and suck up battery juice. Also, on some markers, you will wear the o-rings. Basically, there is minor wear and tear every time you shoot any paintball gun, but it is very minor.

You could always practice with the gun turned off or even just degassed and listen for the solenoid cycling. That will certainly keep the neighbours happier.
